But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come”.
The Scriptures reveal clearly that there are certain things that would destroy any group of people, whether they have been baptized under clouds and in the sea, have eaten of spiritual food or drank of the spiritual water from the spiritual rock that follows. Beloved God will not be pleased with us if we continue in these five things, no matter whether we have been baptised, eaten spiritual food or drank spiritual water.
The Scriptures tell us about the biblical Israel and how they were baptised under Moses, ate the same spiritual food, and drank the same spiritual water from Christ and yet with many of them God was not pleased. The Bible tells us that these things were written for our learning and for our ensample.
Let us therefore discuss 5 things that would lead to the overthrow of many if left unchecked and dealt with;
1. Lusting after evil things:
This is nurturing and harbouring a strong craving for other things.
2. Idolatry:
These are orgies, revelling and wild partyings in which people eat and drink and rise to play.
3. Fornication:
This embodies all forms of sexual sins. When they fornicated many fell and died.
4. Tempting Christ:
When they tempted Christ, they were destroyed by serpents (See Numbers 21:1-9).
5. Murmuring:
When they murmured, they were destroyed by the destroyed (See Philippians 2:14)
It does not matter how well we started, once these things creep in, many will be overthrown. We will not make it if we allow these things to creep in.
We are out here seeking a kingdom; a kingdom whose designer is God; in which dwells righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. We will not make it if we allow the lust for other things to creep in. The lust for other things will choke our fruitfulness. It will make us fruitless. We must have a holy desire for Zion. We must have a holy desire for Jerusalem. When we lose our desire to live with kingdom advancement as our sole purpose, we miss it all.
May the Lord help us! I love you!
