But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.” (Matthew 26:6-13 KJV)
It is easy to give up on doing even good things when you don’t know why you ought to do such things. Mary brought her offering and others were filled with indignation, but my question is, ‘why were they so angry?’ They were ignorant of the real importance of such a big offering.
Sometimes we wonder what the real need to pray day and night is? A few weeks ago while embarking on a 21 days intense prayer, my own mind and heart began to doubt. I began to question myself on the real need to spend days and nights in prayer. It was after a careful search through the scriptures that I concluded that there is a need to pray; a real need to spend hours upon hours in prayer.
Spending hours in prayer is not a waste of time at all as some think. Prayer is a very useful practice and we should not overlook it. Spending time in prayer is never a waste at all.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 exhorts us to pray without ceasing. For me, this scripture alone is enough reason to keep praying.
In Luke 18:1-5, Our Lord Jesus Christ teaches that men ought always to pray and not to faint. Prayer sustains our faith. Prayer keeps our faith from failing. Every child of God must pray as a lifestyle. Time is far spent and the Son of Man must find us in faith when He returns. Without engaging in prayer, your faith will fail.
Sometimes, I have no reason to pray day and night, except for the fact that Anna spend close to 70 years of her life just praying and fasting day and night (See Luke 2:36-39). If she did it then there must be a good reason to pray continually. So I pray day and night because Anna prayed and fasted day and night all her life. Life is too challenging, we cannot play games.
Can I say more? Consider our Lord Jesus Christ, though equal with God spent His days on Earth praying, and even in heaven, He is interceding ceaselessly for us while we continue in the work of missions. Mark 1:35 tells us that the Lord in His days on Earth spent the first hours of His day in prayer. Our christian walk literally depends on prayer, and not even on the word.
This is the time to arise and pray day and night!
Stay blessed; love you!

What did you pray for? Did it happen?
