Sin is just a little word but with grave consequences. Indeed, being devoted to God makes a nation strong but being indifferent towards God weakens a people. Today, we shall be discussing the issue of sin. It is one of the deadly weapons of darkness that must be dealt with.
Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 14:34 KJV)
There are three definitions of sin in scripture that I want to touch on.
The first is the fact that sin is the transgression of the law.
The Bible says “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law” (1 John 3:4 KJV) It is the wilful or an intentional breach of God’s commandment; doing anything contrary to what the word of God requires of us. So sin is disobedience to God’s commandments, or an express disregard for what Scripture forbids.
The second definition of sin is omitting to do what you know is right to do.
This is the sin of omission. For instance, the prophet Samuel knew it was right to pray to pray for the nation; so he said I will not sin by not praying for you. There are some who know how to do what is right and just decide not to do it; to them it’s sin. In that regards, one thing could be sin to you but not to another. The Bible says “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin” (James 4:17 KJV). We must make a decision do what we know is the right.
The third definition of sin is acting in unbelief.
Anything you do which was done without faith is a sin. You must act in faith to be right. Righteousness is acting based on the word of God. Whenever we act in any way other than faith, we have sinned. It is unrighteous to act in unbelief. We must act in faith. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. As children of God we must learn to act in faith.
The Bible says clearly “that righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to every people.” Sin doesn’t just kill but it also defiles a people. Sin dishonours God and defile the sinner.
I pray that God will give us the grace to act in faith, the grace to keep His commandments in faith, and the grace to do what we know is right.
None of us shall fall short of this. Our foremost commitment will be to please God.
May we become a generation of men and women whose greatest joy will be to act in faith, to act in accordance with what we know is right, and to be guided by the express demands of the Word of God.
May we find forgiveness with God when we fail and may we forgive and restore each other. May we learn to restore those who fall into sin. Please, note the phrase fall into, not walk into.
Sin is deadly. May we learn to avoid and walk away from sin.
It is important to state that in Numbers 21 -25 when Balaam was unable to curse Israel, he recommended sin. He admonished Balak and Syria to lure Israel into disobeying God and they will be cursed. Sometimes, if the devil wants to destroy a people he introduces sin among them.
May the Lord protect and help us to live above reproach. May God help us to walk in dominion and above reproach. Stay blessed.
I love you
