As a Classical Bible-based church, the HighCity believes in praying in tongues both in the service and privately. As bible believers who believe the whole Bible, I believe that we can agree with Apostle Paul to pray more in tongues. Apostle Paul testifies that he prayed in tongues more than every one in the church of Corinth. I will encourage all of us to pray more in tongues both in private and in general church gathering.
There are extremely great benefits in praying in tongues. If we can learn to pray in tongues more and more, we will do far better spiritually and socially. The wonderful benefits of praying in tongues include but not limited to these reasons.
[1 Corinthians 14:18-19 KJV]“I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all: yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue”
1. Praying in tongues facilitates spiritual edification:
Thosewho pray more in unknown tongues edify themselves. Their prayer releases great power into their spirits to make them strong. (See 1 Corinthians 14:4-5; Jude 20). One of the greatest secrets to staying healthy and strong is to pray more in the Holy Ghost.
2. Praying more in tongues helps you to pray and praise God better:
(See 1 Corinthians 14:2, 13-15; Romans 8:26-27, Acts 2:11). Praying in tongues helps you to pray to God. In almost all the instances that the Holy Ghost came down, the people prayed and praise God. Whenever you are praying in tongues; two things happen: you end praying and praising God. This is one of the compelling reasons to pray more in tongues.
3. Praying in tongues helps you to be effective in spiritual warfare:
(See Ephesians 6:18). Apostle Paul encouraged the church to pray all prayers in the spirit if we want to win the war over evil. Praying in tongues helps you to access spiritual realms beyond human understanding. When you pray in an unknown tongue, your understanding is unfruitful.
3. Praying in tongues helps you to pray about mysteries:
When you pray in unknown tongues, you pray about mysteries to God. Though no man understands you, in the spirit, you pray about mysteries.
4. Praying in tongues is a sign for unbelievers:
(See 1 Corinthians 14:22). When the unbelievers hear us praying in tongues, they don’t struggle to know who we are. It is a sign that we have the Holy Spirit. You must always pray in tongues to let the world know that we believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit. At least, it’s a proof that you believe.
5. Praying in tongues helps you to pray for long hours and double task:
You can pray always and anywhere because your understanding is unfruitful.
May your faith be stirred up to pray more and more in tongues and may you never be discouraged by the mockery and gainsaying of the scorned. No matter what the devil whispers to you; there are more benefits in praying in tongues than not.
Stay blessed
