I want to share four simple tips on how to have a personal conviction. We are living in crucial times where having a personal faith is so important. The issue with many of the people is that they have not taken the pain to develop a personal conviction, persuasion, and assurance that the things we have been instructed in are true and carry power.
Many people are just in the flow. They are moving with the tide. They are not swimming, they are floating; that is why any little turbulence shakes their sail and they drown. The simple tips to develop a personal conviction in the things of God are
Hear the truth
Roman 10:17 teaches that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. The first step to developing a personal conviction at a deeper level is to listen to the truth again and again. As you hear it over and over it registers in your mind and heart. By the mouth of two or three witnesses a matter is established. You must hear the same thing again and again. It’s profitable to you. To hear the same thing again and again is safe.
Philippians 3:1 KJV — “Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe.“
Mix the gospel with faith in you
Honestly the word you hear will not profit you, except it is mixed with faith in you. No matter what word your pastor preaches; it will not profit you except you mix it with faith in you. You must mix the word with faith in you
Hebrews 4:2 KJV — “For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it“.
Act on it
The third hint is to act on the word, you are instructed in. Faith without works is dead. When Abram believed, he obeyed. When he was called to go, he obeyed. Abraham stepped out in faith and headed for a land God will show him. The word you obey is the word that works for you. Your faith will not grow until you work it. You must obey the truth and work on it.
Experience it
You develop personal faith when you experience the manifestation of your faith. You learn how to swim by getting into the water. As you beat against the tide, you experience the water and develop the courage and boldness to swim further and further.
Own it; personalise the conviction
The men of Samaria that followed the woman of Samaria to encounter a man she had met, experienced the transformative power of the word and now owned their own conviction.
John 4:39-42 KJV — “And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. [40] So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.”
[41] “And many more believed because of his own word; [42] and said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.“
The people believed because the woman testified and acted on it; after acting on it, they had their own experience and owned their conviction.
Stay blessed
