Many of us wonder what we must ask of the Lord. Among many of the things you may ask of the Lord these are five key prayers that can change your life;
1. Teach us to number our days
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” (Psalms 90:12 KJV).
We will begin to be wise and apply our hearts to wisdom when we learn to number our days. We do not have forever to live on earth; yes in eternity, we would but the quality of life we live both here and then will be determined by the wisdom we apply our hearts to today.
2. Teach us to order our speech
“Teach us what we shall say unto him; for we cannot order our speech by reason of darkness.” (Job 37:19 KJV).
“For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.” (James 3:2) Being able to order your speech is very important. We live in a day in which knowing what is right to say is difficult. Our prayer today is for the Lord to teach us what to say. Because of the gross darkness we are unable to know what to say.
3. Teach us to pray
“And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” (Luke 11:1 KJV)
There is no formular for prayer; prayer is prayer and it’s as simple as that. Often we do not pray because we do not find the need to pray. A person will pray when they are drawn by the Spirit of God to pray. May the Lord teach us the practice of prayer. May you learn prayer and may that prayer work for you.
4. Teach us what we shall do with this gift
Then Manoah entreated the Lord , and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born. (Judges 13:8 KJV)
A child represents a gift from God, there are times when God gives us a gift and we are unaware of how to use the gift. When the angel announced the birth of Samson, his parents enquired to know how they should raise him. It is important for every one to know how to handle the gift God gives them. I just hope that we spend time praying to understand how we can handle our gifts.
5. Teach us good judgment and knowledge
“Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments.” (Psalms 119:66 KJV)
The fifth thing we shall ask the Lord to teach us is judgement and knowledge. We live in a dark world and very often we are unaware of what is right from wrong when we have to choose in matters that fall within shades of grey. May the Lord teach us judgment and knowledge. May we never lack discretion. May we walk in the newness of life.
