Isaiah 44:1-5 KJV — Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen: [2] thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.
[3] For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: [4] and they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.
[5] One shall say, I am the LORD’s; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel.
The Lord has promised to pour water upon him that is thirty and his Spirit upon the seed of Jeshurun. Note that the key words and phrases connote the need to thirty and hunger after the right things.
Let us discuss 7 things you should desire and hunger and thirst after: the presence of God, the best gifts, the grace to prophesy, the power of God, mighty manifestations and demonstrations of the Spirit, the mighty manifestations of the gifts of the Spirit, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. Remember, those who hunger and thirst after righteousness shall be filled;
1. Desire the presence of the Holy Spirit:
In Psalm 51, the psalmist teaches us to pray that God will neither take His Holy Spirit from him nor cast him away from His presence. In His presence, there is fullness of joy and at His right hand, there are pleasures forever more.
2. Covet earnestly the best gifts:
The bibles teaches us covet the best gift.
1 Corinthians 12:28-31 KJV — And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. [29] Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
[30] Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? [31] But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.
Everyone of us must have a strong desire to operate the best gifts. You must want and strive for it.
3. Desire to prophesy:
Every one of us should nurture the earnest desire to prophesy and to interpret his own tongues: This is to keep the church edified. When you speak in tongues you edify yourself but when you prophesy, you edify the church. Desire the best gifts to serve one another better. We don’t want to build churches with superstar and celebrity pastors. God is calling us to become an army of prophets.
1 Corinthians 14:1-5 KJV — Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. [2] For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. [3] But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
[4] He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. [5] I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.
4. Strive to receive power:
The Holy Spirit is God not necessarily the power of God. He is God and at the same time the generator of power. He is our connection to the power of God, just as our Lord Jesus Christ is our connection or link to the grace of God.
Acts 1:8 teaches that we shall receive after that the Holy Ghost has come upon us. Power follows the coming of the Holy Ghost. Power follows the baptism of the Spirit. Our Lord Jesus Christ after the baptism of the Holy Spirit at the Jordan, was led into the wilderness to wait on God.
5. Desire the mighty manifestations and demonstration of the spirit and power:
Our faith must be established in the power of God and not in the wisdom of men. We must pray for the mighty manifestations and demonstrations of the Spirit and power. May the Spirit divine attend our prayers! May He come as the fire to purge our hearts and as the light to bring us revelation.
1 Corinthians 2:4-5 KJV — And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: [5] that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
6. Desire for the mighty manifestations of the gifts of the spirit, to benefit everyone:
It is one thing to receive the gifts of the spirit but another level to see the mighty manifestations of the gifts. When the gifts of healings manifest among us, many shall be healed; when the gifts of prophecy manifest, many shall be edified. Let us pray for the mighty manifestations of the gifts of the Spirit
7. Pray for the fellowship of the Spirit.
It’s one thing to be in the presence of someone but an entirely different level to have fellowship with the person. May the fellowship and communion of the Spirit be with us.
Stay blessed
