You can reach your city with the gospel. We can take this city! We can reach this city with the gospel of Christ if we understand that ministry is not about the drama or the pomp and pageantry that accompanies modern ministry.
“And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. And all the men were about twelve. And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God. But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus. And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks. And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them” (Acts 19:1-12 KJV)
You do not need to be a superstar pastor with a mega church to reach your city with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Every ordinary church can reach their city for Christ with the gospel.
We must understand that Apostle Paul with 12 committed men that met in a classroom could reach all of the then Asia in 24 months, even in the midst of great opposition and unbelief.
Take inspiration from the life of Apostle Paul; how he found 12 disciples and transformed them to reach all of Asia with the gospel of Jesus Christ in 24 months.
Now let us ask ourselves exactly how this happened? We can reach this city with the gospel of Jesus Christ if;
- We are genuinely convicted in the doctrine of our apostle.
- We have the anointing and gifts of the Holy Spirit
- We steadfastly continue in fellowship, in word study, prayer, and the communion of the apostle daily
- We live an authentic lifestyle; at work, at home, in the parking lot, at the gym, at the games…
- We consistently reach out and minister
We can reach this city with the gospel. It’s possible! Let’s give it a try! We can make an impact like any other church. Most of the five things listed are easy. But then again one may ask, why should we meet daily as they met?
The answer is simple: we are changed into the likeness of whoever or whatever we spend a lot time with. We even tend to take after the places where we spend our time. We are like magnetic objects which get magnetized merely by being close enough to a magnet long enough.
In conclusion, we must purpose, plan, and meet together for fellowship more often.
May God baptize you with the Holy Spirit and empower you to reach your city with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Amen!
