[Ephesians 5:18-21 KJV] “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; [19] Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; [20] Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; [21] Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God”.
The simple secret to be filled with the Holy Spirit includes speaking to yourself in Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always, and submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of the Lord.
In this month of March, we shall be discussing the Promise of the Father, the Holy Spirit. The Lord assured the disciples that He has finished everything that He needed to do to establish the covenant of peace; the gospel can, however, only be preached when we have received the Promise of the Father.
We know that the Holy Spirit is the Promise of the Father and Jesus without limits; another comforter of the same kind.
[John 16:7 KJV] “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you”.
The Lord Jesus admonished His disciples to wait in Jerusalem until we are endued with power from on high. But now the promise is already given; He is the comforter, enabler, teacher, strengthener, leader, a seal, a defender and a helper. He is already given, but many saints are weak because they do not know how to be filled by Him.
The Holy Spirit is not a formula. He is a person and can be accessed when we walk in these four simple secrets. In the anchor text, we see how they returned to Jerusalem praising the Lord with one accord in the temple. The apostle Paul teaches us the four simple secrets to getting filled with the Holy Spirit;
1. Speak to yourself in Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs:
Do it everyday and all the time. Keep doing it. Speak to yourself because that is how you get cleansed. You are washed by the water of the word.
2. Sing and make melody in your heart unto the Lord:
Singing unto the Lord opens the gates of heaven for the Spirit to flow.
3. Learn to Give thanks to God always:
This keeps you loyal and faithful.
4. Submit yourselves one to another in the fear of the Lord:
This keeps you humble and grateful.
Be filled with the Holy Ghost. Don’t be filled with wine but be filled with the Holy Ghost. Without the Holy Ghost, we can do nothing, but with Him, all things are possible. We can never underestimate the importance and power of the Holy Ghost. You must be yielded to be filled, for the following reasons;
1. The Holy Spirit is an enabling and empowering Spirit:
Acts 1:8 teaches that we shall receive power after that the Holy Spirit has come upon us. The Holy Spirit is the enabling and empowering Spirit. When the Holy Spirit comes upon a man, that man is transformed and becomes a different man.
2. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of utterance, revelation and insight:
[Joel 2:28 KJV] “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:”
When the Spirit of God comes upon a generation, the young generation or the emerging generation receive bold utterance and revelation, and the older generation gain insight.
3. The Holy Spirit is the seal of ownership and protection for the believer:
[Ephesians 4:30 KJV] “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption”.
The Holy Spirit is our seal unto the day of redemption. The Holy Spirit is the seal of ownership and protection.
4. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of conviction and desire:
[Ephesians 1:13-14 KJV] “In whom ye also trusted , after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, [14] Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory”.
[2 Corinthians 1:21-22 KJV] “Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; [22] Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts”.
The earnest of the spirit is the same as the desire or conviction of the spirit. The Holy Spirit feeds our conviction and sharpens our desire for eternal things. A carnal person only care about earthly things but a spiritual person understands the things of God.
[2 Corinthians 5:5 KJV] “Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit”.
5. The Holy Spirit is the inner strengthening Spirit:
[Ephesians 3:16 KJV] “That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;”
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit that can strengthen each of us with might in the inner man. Those who have the Holy Spirit are strong in the inner man. The Holy Spirit strengthens us with might.
6. The Holy Spirit is a teaching and a leading Spirit:
[1 John 2:27 KJV] “But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him”.
The Holy Spirit abides in us and teaches us all things. Spiritual things are spiritually discerned, so without the Holy Spirit, we cannot discern spiritual things.
7. The Holy Spirit is a standard lifter and a defence:
[Isaiah 59:19 KJV] “So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him”.
He is your defense against satanic onslaught. The Holy Spirit is the person Who lifts standards against the enemy. Be blessed!
I love you;
