[Genesis 24:63 KJV] “And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming”.
According Wikipedia, meditation is a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing their mind on a particular object, thought or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.
Although meditation has been practiced since antiquity, the word meditation has gain notoriety among believers because it is a prominently practiced by cults. Meditation, however, is Christian, and one of the key practices of the patriarchs.
As we learn from Genesis 24:63, our father, Isaac, went out into the fields to meditate. What was he meditating on? I guess he was meditating on the word and promises of God. Remember, mediating is not the same as blanking the mind. It is fixing your mind and thoughts on a thought or activity or on God to achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state. Meditation therefore must build trust and calmness.
Why must you meditate on the word daily?
1. Meditating on the word of God will make you mentally and emotionally stable and calm:
The Bible teaches us what things we must think on;
[Philippians 4:8 KJV] “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things”.
2. Meditating on the book of the law leads to good success:
This book is the book of success; in fact, good success. People who succeed meditate on the content of this book.
[Joshua 1:8 KJV] “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success”.
3. Meditating on the word will make you fruitful and fresh:
Sure it does;
[Psalms 1:1-3 KJV] “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. [2] But his delight is in the law of the Lord ; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. [3] And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper”.
4. Meditating on the word of God will transform you into the same glory that you behold:
It is one of the main secrets to change.
[2 Corinthians 3:18 KJV] “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord”.
5. Meditating on the word increases your illumination:
The more you think and focus your thoughts on the word, the greater your illumination.
[Luke 11:34-36 KJV] “The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. [35] Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. [36] If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light”.
6. Meditating on the word renews your health:
The word of God is health to those who find it.
[Proverbs 4:20-22 KJV] “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. [21] Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. [22] For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh“.
I believe that there are so many benefits in meditating on the word. Stay blessed!
