I want to exhort you today on trusting the Lord to train your hands to war and your fingers to fight.
[Psalm 144:1-15 KJV] “Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight: [2] My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me”.
[3] “Lord, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him! or the son of man, that thou makest account of him! [4] Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away”.
[5] “Bow thy heavens, O Lord, and come down: touch the mountains, and they shall smoke. [6] Cast forth lightning, and scatter them: shoot out thine arrows, and destroy them. [7] Send thine hand from above; rid me, and deliver me out of great waters, from the hand of strange children; [8] Whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood”.
[9] “I will sing a new song unto thee, O God: upon a psaltery and an instrument of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee. [10] It is he that giveth salvation unto kings: who delivereth David his servant from the hurtful sword. [11] Rid me, and deliver me from the hand of strange children, whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood:”
[12] “That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace: [13] That our garners may be full, affording all manner of store: that our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our streets: [14] That our oxen may be strong to labour; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no complaining in our streets. [15] Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the Lord”.
We know that soul winning is the core purpose of our salvation and calling and empowerment. We are saved, called, and graced to reach the lost and preach the gospel. We know that we should all care about the lost and about souls. We are called to this end and to this purpose. Soul-winning is the reason why every believer anywhere is called, and at the HighCity Church, we are committed to planting micro churches around the world as our key strategy to carrying out this mandate.
One of the key inputs that will help us to carry out this mandate is training and teaching. We must believe God to train us to carry out this assignment. King David wrote that he was fruitful and victorious because the Lord taught his fingers to fight and his hands to war. I will exhort us to learn, and learn, and learn, and learn!. We must give ourselves to training.
Mark 3:13-16 teaches that Jesus Christ called those that He wanted, and when they came, He ordained twelve to be with Him, that He might send them to preach to the gospel, to have power over devils, and to heal the sick. Training is key to success in soul-winning. You must be trained. The Lord must teach your hands to war and your fingers to fight. You must be submitted to training. Teaching and training is key to success in soul-winning and evangelism.
You need to be trained as a fighter if the church is going to succeed at soul-winning. You need to be trained not to entangle yourself in the affairs of this world except to please the One who enlisted you to be a soldier. Many of us have not been effective because we are too entangled. From today, I declare that you are a soldier for Christ. You will fight in the Lord’s army until every foe is vanquished. The Lord shall keep and sustain you in this fierce battle. You shall be trained by the Lord. May He take you to the spiritual military academy to study war! It is time to fight until the souls of men are released. Change is coming, and we are the agents of change.
We have learned that three things will change the phase of growth of the church in these last days: leadership, technology, and culture. On your part, therefore, you will be trained by the Lord to do the following;
1. Take Initiative:
Taking initiative is the first sign of leadership. You must have an understanding of times and seasons in order to understand what must be done and at what time. Taking initiative does not mean usurping authority, but discussing your innovations with your immediate supervisors.
When David saw Goliath, he did not immediately jump in and start fighting, that would have been disastrous, he needed to seek the clearance of the king and the commander of the army.
Caleb did not march to Hebron because Moses promised it to him; he needed to speak to Joshua. He needed to speak to the man of God and ask for permission to take the hill country. I believe with all of my heart that it will take wise initiatives to win the community around us.
2. Develop your skill-set:
Develop and sharpen your skill set. You need training and skills to be able to use the available technology of the time. When Saul presented David with his armour, he could not use it because he was not trained for it, although it was state of the art. We need to develop our skill-set in order to become cutting-edge leaders in innovation, technology, and excellence.
3. Bear the fruit of the Spirit:
Bearing the fruit of the Spirit is one of the key indicators of a healthy attitude that can help you to stay above the laws of men. Bible teaches that those who bear the fruit of the spirit are above human laws. You will have the right attitude for winning. God will help you and take you far.
I believe with all of my heart that if we allow God to teach our fingers to fight and our hands to war, we are going to win. We can win more people when we are given to training. So, my counsel to you today is train and train, and retrain, and train and retrain. You will not fail, you will win!
We are waiting and praying this one prayer; that Lord should teach our hands to war and our fingers to fight. May the Lord sharpen your skill-set and gifts! May you not be inexperienced! You will be sharpened together with us today and you will not faint! This is the day when we trust the Lord to sharpen our gifts and skill-set.
Be blessed, I love you!
