Today, we want to invoke the name of the Lord for victory over the evil and wickedness that is in the world. I pray that as we call on God, He will answer!
[Proverbs 18:10 KJV] “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”
We shall be answering 3 simple questions; what is the name of the Lord? why should we invoke the name of the Lord? how do we invoke the name of the Lord?
We know that a name is a title by which people, things or places are identified. We know that a name tells a lot about a person, a thing or a place. We have no doubt that the name of the Lord reveals who He is. Above all, however, “the name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run to it and they are safe”. The name of the Lord is, therefore, a hiding place and a strong tower.
Why should we invoke the name of the Lord?
The following are three reasons why we should call on the name of the Lord;
1. Our help is in the name of the Lord.
2. Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
3. The name of the Lord is our offensive weapon to destroy nations that rise against us:
[Psalms 118:11 KJV] They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about: but in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.
4. At the mention of the name of Jesus Christ, every knee will bow and tongue confess that He is Lord.
How can we invoke the name of the Lord?
There are four simple steps to invoking the name of the Lord;
1. Hallow the name:
The Bible warns us not to take the name of the Lord in vain. We must honour and sanctify and bless that name. We must bestow the honour due to God on His name. We must exalt that name.
2. Publish the name in all the nations:
In Psalm 102:21, we see the need to declare the name of the Lord in Zion and ascribe greatness to Him (See Deuteronomy 32:3)
3. Lift up the cup of salvation:
Psalm 116: teaches us to lift up the cup of salvation, then we can call on the name of the Lord. [Psalms 116:13 KJV] “I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord”.
4. Offer the sacrifice of thanksgiving:
[Psalms 116:17-19] “I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord . I will pay my vows unto the Lord now in the presence of all his people, In the courts of the Lord’s house, in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Praise ye the Lord”.
5. Then call upon the name:
We know that “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, now may Israel say; If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us: Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us: Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul: Then the proud waters had gone over our soul. Blessed be the Lord , who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth. Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord , who made heaven and earth” (Psalms 124:1-8 KJV)
Stay blessed, I love you!
