We all get overwhelmed sometimes by the events and circumstances of life and resort to a quiet place to find rest. My question is where do you often resort to when you want to get away from the noise. Our Lord Jesus Christ had a place He resorted to with His disciples to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
[John 18:1-3 KJV] “When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.”
“And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples. Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.”
Now it is important to understand that our Lord Jesus Christ often resorted to the garden of Gethsemane. ‘Gethsemane’ in Hebrew is the ‘oil press’. It was a garden across the brooks of Celdron in the Mount of Olives. Gethsemane, therefore, is a place where the spirit and power are created. Gethsemane is a place you can run to hide from trouble and burdens. The Lord always resorted to Gethsemane with his disciples to pray.
[Matthew 26:36 KJV] “Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.”
[Luke 22:39 KJV] “And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.”
The Lord had been spending so much time there with them that Judas knew that He will surely be there. Every one of us must have a place where we resort to refresh, to refill, and rejuvenate.
I recommend that we all find a place in the presence and name of God where we can all resort to when we feel overwhelmed. Jesus Christ had Gethsemane; you must find a place to resort to regularly. Until you find that place, you will be drowned. We need a Gethsemane, that oil press; where unction is manufactured. Let us strive to find peace and joy in the presence of God.
