Fasting releases seven blessings into your life.
We are told that Our Lord Jesus Christ spent 40 days and nights in the presence of the Lord in the wilderness; what at all was He looking for?
We want to explore the seven blessings that our Lord Jesus was seeking as He waited on God. If the Lord did it then we must learn from Him.
What 7 blessings does fasting release?
[Matthew 4:1-2 KJV] “Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. “
According to Isaiah 58 fasting is not a ritual by which you;
- Afflict your soul
- Make your voice heard on high
- Smite with the fist wickedness
- Make an argument
- Put up a public display of sorrow or repentance
- Gain the approval and acceptance of the Lord
Fasting as appointed by the Lord is to abstain from food, pleasure, and excessive exertion to seek the face of the Lord for the strength and empowerment to:
- Loose the bands of wickedness, undo the heavy burdens, let the oppressed go free, and break every yoke. (See Isaiah 58:4-6)
- Give your bread to the hungry, shelter the poor that are cast out, cover the naked, and identify with your flesh. (See Isaiah 58:7,10)
- Set aside a day you will keep holy for the Lord. A day you will not do any work of your own but will commit to serving the Lord with joy (See Isaiah 58:13-14)
As we pray with fasting, our primary focus is to receive empowerment to love our neighbours as ourselves; to have compassion and help the hungry, the naked, and poor or homeless; and to set aside a day to serve the Lord with joy. To set aside a day dedicated to God and the things of God alone. No true believer will work 7 days a week. It is not right and not acceptable.
There are many blessings and benefits to be received and attained. Isaiah 58 enumerates 7 blessings we can expect as we wait on God.
7 Blessings to expect from Fasting
1. Prominence:
Your light shall break forth as the morning. Your light shall rise from obscurity and your darkness shall be as the noonday.
2. Health and healing:
Your health shall spring forth speedily. God will put none of the diseases of Egypt upon you. You will be healed.
3. New frontiers and safe passage:
Your righteousness shall go before you and the glory of the Lord shall be your reward. That is to say that your righteousness shall pave a way for you and God will secure or guarantee your safe passage.
4. Answered prayers and help:
When you pray the Lord will answer and He will respond to your desperate cry
5. Providence and satisfaction and fattening and overflow:
The Lord shall guide you continually, satisfy your soul in drought, and make your bones fat; therefore you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
6. Empowerment to influence social change, development, and restoration of habitats:
Those who shall align with you shall build the old waste places. You shall raise the foundations of many generations, and you shall be called the repairer of the breach and restorer of paths to dwell in.
7. Promotion, elevation, and sustenance
The Lord shall cause you to ride upon the high places of the earth and shall feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father.
