The new testament apostles give us varying perspectives to what must occupy us as a church and as individuals. Apostle Paul demonstrated our obligation to preach the gospel, but Apostle Jude exhorts us to contend for the faith that was delivered to us as Saints.
[Jude 1:3 KJV] “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”
What is this faith and how can we contend for it? You can contend earnestly for what you know, believe, are fully persuaded about, live by, and can share unapologetically.
Every one of us must be equipped to serve Christ and contend for the faith. We should be able to defend and contend for what we believe. We can, however, do this effectively when;
- You know what we believe
- You are fully persuaded about them
- You live by them
- You are able to share and defend your faith unapologetically
We must strive to discover, study, understand, and defend some key doctrines. When Luke had a more perfect understanding of what was believed, he too wrote and shared his perspective. Luke had a purpose for writing and that same purpose must guide us.
[Luke 1:1-4 KJV] “Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us, Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;”
“It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus, That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed”
Luke wrote his gospel to help us to know the certainty or veracity of what is believed among us. It is important to know what we believe and to be able to defend or contend for it.
This is the time. We must arise and contend for the faith. The devil is trying to do all he can to steal this generation away. We must not allow him. We must arise and fight for the faith. We should never allow the enemy to mix our rice porridge with sand.
Stay blessed
