How to Abide Forever Living in a World that is Passing Away

[1 John 2:15‭-‬17 KJV] “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

“And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”

I want to speak about the one thing many of us have forgotten: the fact that this world and everything in it is passing away. The world is passing away and passing so quickly. The Lord sent me to tell you that this world is passing and passing away quickly. He does not want us to forget that this world and everything in it is passing away and passing very quickly. This world and all the things in it will not be here forever. The heavens will roll away like a mat and the earth will burn with fervent heat.

The Apostle John teaches clearly that the world and everything in it are passing away and passing so quickly “BUT, THOSE WHO DO THE WILL OF GOD SHALL ABIDE FOREVER.” The first most important counsel for every one of us is to seek to know and do the will of God. That is the tip to abide forever. Those who do the will of the Father shall abide forever.

What then is the will of God? The will of God is;

1. NONE SHALL BE LOST BUT THAT ALL MEN SHALL COME TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH:

All those who want to do the will of God must believe in Jesus Christ. This is because there is no name given under heaven, by which men ought to be saved (See Acts 4:19)

2. ALL THOSE WHO BELIEVE MUST BE ADDED TO THE BODY TO MATURE AND TO REACH OUT TO OTHERS:

The only power to save the world is the preaching of the gospel. (See Romans 1:16, 1 Corinthians 1:18-22).

If we want to do the will of the Father, then we must believe and witness to others. Whatever you hear must be shared with others (See 2 Timothy 2:2)

3. WE WILL BE TRANSFORMED AND CONFORMED TO THE IMAGE OF HIS DEAR SON:

If you want to do the will of God then, DON’T CONFORM TO THE PATTERNS OF THE WORLD, but be rather transformed by the renewing of the mind. This is the will of God and what we must do. You will fail if you conform; because the world and God does not mix.

You cannot be a Christian and conform to the patterns of the world and still succeed. If you want to be hot, be hot; if you want to be cold, be cold; God hates lukewarmness. Drink deep or taste none!

4. LABOUR ONLY FOR THINGS WHICH MOTH AND RUST AND THIEVES CANNOT DESTROY OR PLUNDER:

If you want to do the will of God, then DON’T SELL WHAT IS ETERNAL TO ACQUIRE THAT WHICH IS TEMPORARY. In simple language don’t sell your soul to acquire anything temporary or earthly.

Money is good, fame is good, status is good, wealth is good, beauty is good, but don’t sell your soul nor compromise your faith to purchase anything earthly.

We live in a generation were selling your soul to the devil or compromising your faith and values mean nothing. If you want to escape, then determine not to sell that which is eternal to acquire anything temporary.

5. LOVE HIM WITH ALL OF OUR HEARTS, SOULS, AND MIND AND MIGHT:

The will of God is for us to love Him with all that we have and are. Those who can do the will of God must not LOVE THE WORLD NOR ANYTHING IN IT. The world is passing and friendship with the world is enmity with God.

Those who love the world cannot love God and those who love God will lose their love when they begin to love the world. (See James 4:4, 1John 2:15). Any affinity you develop for the world will fight any love you have for God. You cannot love the two; you will always honour one over the other.

6. POSSESS YOUR VESSEL IN HONOUR, EVEN YOUR SANCTIFICATION:

1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 teaches us what the will of God is. God wants us to possess our vessel in honour and sanctification. This is the will of God. Those who do these things shall abide forever.
