[1 Corinthians 14:1 KJV] “Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy”
There are so many spiritual gifts at the disposal of the church and the believer. These spiritual gifts are more than the nine enumerated in 1 Corinthians 12. However, we know of the gifts of knowledge, wisdom, utterance, interpretation, healing, faith, working miracles, visions, dreams etc. These are spiritual endowments that play a great role in the school of success.
In this study I want to outline a few tips for receiving spiritual gifts;
- Learn to love
- Strive to prophesy
- Desire spiritual gifts
- Covet the best gifts
- Neglect not spiritual gifts in you
- Stir up the spiritual gifts
- Serve with the spiritual gifts
1 Corinthians 14:1 teaches the first three tips. The apostle taught us to “follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.” These are the three first steps towards spiritual endowments.
Apostle Paul further taught that we ought to covet earnestly the best gifts. “But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way”. (1 Corinthians 12:31 KJV)
The next two scriptures point to the last points. We need to both recognise, stir and serve with the gift.
[1 Timothy 4:14 KJV] “Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.”
[2 Timothy 1:6 KJV] “Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.”
Stay blessed
