“And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” [Matthew 26:40-41 KJV]
I want to challenge and exhort you to pray for an hour a day for the next 6 days alone. We want to commit ourselves to daily prayer; an hour a day! Having discussed the duration, let us discuss the time. What are the most opportune time to pray?
Time
Because of our busy schedules to have the most of the time and privacy; let us settle for early morning or late night after everything before bed time. We will be meeting online at mid day for corporate prayers and also in the evenings when we have a service. But we want to make 60 minutes either early morning or late in the evening when we are retiring.
“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.” (Mark 1:35 KJV)
“And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.” (Matthew 14:23 KJV)
Techniques
We are going to use a mixture of techniques for the 6 days; but let’s settle for simple patterns
- Start by reading the scriptures for 5 minutes or a chapter and meditate on what your read. Just answer the questions: who said it, who was he speaking to, why did he say that, how can it apply to my life?
- Sing any 4 to 5 worship songs of your choice. Get deeply involved in the singing close your eyes or kneel if possible; and lift your heart to heaven as speaking to your Father.
- Pray the 6 or twelve items on your prayer list. Spend 3 to 5 minutes on each item.
- Sing and minister songs and worship to the Lord; after every two items
- Just relax or think after your have exhausted your list till the 60 minutes is over.
