Jeremiah 17:5-8 KJV — Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. [6] For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
[7] Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. [8] For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
The Lord admonishes us by the prophet that it’s a curse to get to that place in life where you are able to count on men so much that you withdraw your trust and hope on God. It’s too dangerous to treat God lightly because you are counting on people. Many of us are setting ourselves up for disappointment because we are counting on people.
Stop counting on people for three reasons
- People forget: Even those who mean well may forget themselves and disappoint you.
- People are people: Humans are limited and handicapped in many areas. Many people go back on their promise when they confront the limitation. When people become helpless themselves, they can’t keep their promises.
- People change when their needs change: The people you are counting on will change when their needs change. It is dangerous to count on a mortal man who has needs.
I pray that you will start counting on God and staying instant and consistent in prayer! May you stop counting on people and start trusting and counting on God instead. It’s a curse to think that men can help you. Let us start trusting God and come to him in the day of need!
Stay blessed!
