Occupy till Jesus Christ comes

Luke 19:12-13 (KJV) — “He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.“

Devotional Thought

Jesus tells a parable of a nobleman who entrusts his servants with resources before departing to receive his kingdom. Before leaving, he gives them a clear instruction: “Occupy till I come.” This is more than a command to stay busy, it is a divine summons to engage, steward, and influence.

To occupy is to take territory, to do business, to trade, to produce value. As believers, this is not limited to the spiritual sphere alone. We are called to occupy the marketplaces of life, business, education, media, technology, governance, and the arts, with integrity and purpose.

This parable reminds us that kingdom advancement is not idle waiting, but active influence. The world needs honest men and women of God who are financially empowered, morally upright, and spiritually grounded to bring light into dark places.

You cannot preach to the hungry without bread in your hand. You cannot serve your community well when you’re crushed under financial burdens. This is why God gives us capital — not just money, but time, skills, ideas, and relationships. When we trade and multiply what we’ve been given, we honor God and bless others.

It is time to rise up with faith, diligence, and integrity, and occupy. Take your place, build,  trade,  serve, and  advance the kingdom with the strength God gives you.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for entrusting me with time, talents, and opportunities. Teach me to occupy until You return, to work, build, and influence the world around me with integrity, wisdom, and diligence. Help me to discern my calling and boldly step into the marketplace with Your favor upon me. May everything I do point back to You and bring glory to Your name. Amen.
