In this message, I am making a passionate call to you to return to your first love for God.
[Revelation 2:1-7 KJV] “Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;”
“I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: and hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.”
“Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.”
“But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.”
I hear the voice of the spirit calling us to return to the place of first love. Jesus Christ is calling us to that place where we loved only God, our neighbours, our spouses, and things above only; to that place where:
- We loved God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength
- We loved our neighbours and people connected to us as ourselves
- We loved our spouse with submission, mutual respect and recognition
- We loved things above only where Christ is seated.
Jesus is calling us to that place of love where nothing, absolutely nothing could separate us from the love of God; God is calling us to that place where we are more than conquerors;
- Where neither death nor life
- Where neither angels nor principalities nor power
- Where neither things present nor things to come
- Where neither heights nor depth nor any creature can separate us from the love of God!
[Romans 8:37-39 KJV] “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Many have lost that love; many have lost it because;
- Their hopes were deferred and their hearts became sick. The things they thought they would get out of loving seem to delay in coming. Many people live for a reason and not for loving sake; that is why they fall out.
- The love for other things and people crept in. Many lose their first love because they fall in love with other people or with other things.
- They got hurt and offended; became bitter unforgiving; that is how they lost their first love
- The cost of loving became too expensive for them. Loving will cost you something, your time, resources, attention, and energy; love is not cheap.
- They got corrupted from the simplicity of Christ and life. They make their lives too complex and get corrupted.
If we want to ignite the fire of first love, then;
- We must remember how He loved us when we did not bring much to the table. Jesus died for us when no one would. He carried our burden and died in our place. Remember how He loved us when no one would.
- Remember He never left nor forsook us. We wronged Him many times, we failed and squandered it but He forgave us. He is a perfect lover, He is forgiving.
- Remember what it used to be like before things began to degenerate and the love of other things and people and places crept in.
- Admit that it is possible to love Him again and it is worth it. He would have, so you can!
Remember from where you have fallen and begin to do the first works with first love.
Stay blessed
