All You Need is the Anointing and Here is How to Get It!

We have already studied that there are two types of anointings: the upon and the indwelling anointing. The upon Spirit is given for service, and the indwelling spirit is for victorious living. Every one of us needs both anointings for a full life. You must be anointed for serving and for living. We want to spend some more time in this message learning about how to be anointed.

We want to walk in the reality of being anointed. We need the presence of God and the fresh unction to function. We know that we must be anointed for serving and for living. What then are the practical steps to the anointing?

1. Cultivate a genuine and strong desire for the anointing.
2. Know the Holy Spirit, study to know Him. 
3. Pray for the Father to send you the Holy Spirit. 
4. Wait until you are endued with power.
5. Fulfill all righteousness. 
6. Be led by and fellowship with the Holy Spirit
7. Fellowship with the anointed in an atmosphere of the spirit.

Matthew 5:6  teaches that “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” Those who hunger and thirst for the right things shall be filled. God will not withhold that which is good from those who genuinely desire it. Elisha became anointed because he genuinely wanted a double portion. He was willing and ready to follow until he got it. How hungry are you for the best gift from God? You must genuinely desire the gift of God to you.

The second step to the anointing is to know the Holy Ghost. John 14:16‭-‬17 teaches that the world cannot receive the Spirit of Truth because they don’t know Him.  “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”

In Acts 19, we observe that the church in Ephesus had not received the Holy Ghost because they did not even know there was such a thing. You know Him to receive Him. You must know Him to welcome Him. Let us find time to study and read more about the Person and works of the Holy Ghost. This will help to create the necessary hunger. Spend enough time soaking in the word.

The third step to the anointing is to pray for it. We must pray that the Father will anoint us. We must spend enough time in prayer waiting for the anointing. The Father is willing and ready to send His Spirit to be in and with us. In Luke 11:13, we are assured that “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” God is willing and ready to give the Holy Ghost to those who ask Him. I exhort you to pray and earnestly ask the Holy Ghost to come upon you.

The fourth step is waiting in His presence until you are endued with power from on high. “Those who have redness of eyes are those who tarry long at wine”. You must be willing and ready to invest time if you want the anointing. God will not give pearls to swine. We must be ready to wait until we have received it.

Read Luke 24:49‭-‬53 KJV “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: and were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen”

The fifth step to the anointing is to fulfill all righteousness. Certain neccessary spiritual protocols must be followed. You must be ready to fulfill all righteousness if we want the anointing. [Matthew 3:15 KJV] “And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.” Let us pay every price it takes to receive the anointing. The anointing will cost you something, and you must be willing to give up certain things to be ready for the anointing.

The sixth step to the anointing; especially the upon Spirit is serving the anointed. Elisha received a double portion because he followed and served; the disciples of Christ received the anointing because they served; Joshua became anointed by serving and hands were laid upon him. Fellowshipping with the anointed in an atmosphere of the spirit will release the anointing.

The seventh step to the anointing, especially the anointing of power is to fast and pray and fellowship with the Lord. This is how the Lord returned with power. You can also be anointed with power if you are ready to fast and pray.

[Luke 4:1‭-‬2‭, ‬14‭-‬15 KJV] “And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all”

I pray that as we wait on God, He will both anoint and fill us with the fullness of the Spirit!
