“And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.” (Acts 8:26 KJV)
Reaching the lost is a collective responsibility of the church.
The harvest is ripe and the fields are white. The church must arise and get down to the south. Where is the south? Where is the mission field?
The greatest mission field is not the red light districts and drinking saloons and pubs. Unfortunately, the biggest mission fields are neither in the inner-city nor in the foreign soils. The biggest missions field lies within and the masses of people that flow into the cathedrals and temples of worship every Saturday and Sunday without finding the Jesus Christ, and leave unprepared to face the wicked world.
The church has become more or less a museum; many like this Ethiopian come in empty headed and empty hearted and still leave empty.
The story of the Ethiopian tells the pathetic story of the church. The modern day church is loud but cold. We love the drama and the nice things that come with our worship. We care more about the preacher’s suit than his armour. We are interested in his diction more than his spirit.
Oh that the Lord may rain on us the passion for God and souls! May we catch the holy fire of God one more time! May we care about the new mission field! May the Lord send us this day to the masses on the road from Jerusalem to Gaza; from church to the world.
How unequipped and ill-prepared we are, as we return from Church to a lost and untamed world? How many of God people remain unprepared to face the challenges of a harsh community.
May God raise you as a modern day Philip! May the almighty raise men and women today with the skills and grace to reach the unreached church! May the Lord set his altars ablaze this day! May his servants be aflame with a holy fire to care more about the souls of their hearers than their church’s attendance!
May you hear the voice of the spirit saying arise, go towards the south. May you reach one more for Jesus before this day goes by.
Prayer
Dear Father, Forgive me for my indifference. Touch my heart with a holy fire. Help me to reach one more for you. I pray for missionaries around the world. Father sustain them with your Grace. In Jesus’ name! Amen!
