I believe with all of my heart that one of the things that facilitate church growth is the music ministry. As music ministers, we can lead the church to grow through music. The three key ingredients to grow the church through the music ministry is;
Who we are as ministers:
The person of a music minister has a lot to do with how well he or she contributes to the growth of the church. 1 Samuel 16:18 gives a few qualities that are important to be found in a good music minister. We learn that a good music minister who can lead church growth must be a mighty valiant man, a man of war, prudent in matters, a comely person (well-groomed), and has the presence of the Lord.
[1 Samuel 16:18 KJV] “Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Beth–lehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the Lord is with him”.
Most churches today have many problems because of the music ministers. Many of us are carnal, babes, proud, and insensitive to the Spirit. I pray that in this Year of First Works, we shall cultivate sensitivity to the voice of the Holy Ghost. I pray that we shall become the kind of people who are able to steer, drive and push the Holy Ghost.
Our Stage Craft:
One of the key things that make the singing and music in church make an impact is stagecraft. The music minister must carry himself well on stage if he or she is going to make an impact. 1 Kings 10 gives us a few leads. As a music minister, you must sit well and orderly, sing well, costume well, and go up the stage with decorum. These are little things that impact the singing.
[1 Kings 10:4-5 KJV] “And when the queen of Sheba had seen all Solomon’s wisdom, and the house that he had built, And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up unto the house of the Lord ; there was no more spirit in her”.
The genre of Music:
The kind of music we do in church can facilitate or fight church growth. We must pay attention to the genre of music we do. They must be psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. The Bible is clear on that. We cannot learn from the world; we must not conform to their pattern; we must do our own music.
[Ephesians 5:18-21 KJV] “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God”.
It is my prayer and heart desire that the music ministry will be up and doing. I pray that we shall become champions of church growth. You will stand by your pastors and champion growth. God will work with us to build His church, Amen!
Be blessed, I love you!

Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ!
Please touch and transform the music ministry of the church. Raise from among us men and women who are committed to standing with You. Raise young people who are willing and poised to serve and to minister in the church. Let us become plantings of righteousness!
Train our fingers to play cunningly and our voices to sing Your praise. Let us not fail to sing Your praise and to teach by our medley.
Help us to be examples of worship. Make us beautiful instruments of worship and praise. May we honour Your name by our conduct, Amen!
