Bitterness is another deadly satanic weapon that he has unleashed against the church in recent times.
“Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright” (Hebrews 12:15-16 KJV)
Bitterness is a feeling of rage, anger or resentment, and disappointment over being treated unfairly. Bitterness springs from offence. It may start small but grows and reinforces itself in the mind and heart.
Below are a few reasons why bitterness is such a deadly poison;
Bitterness springs up as a root:
It is very difficult to deal with bitterness because it is a root. This means that it hides deep inside the fibre and the very core of the offended. The word of God, therefore, teaches us to be careful to avoid it. We should not even make room for it to spring up. Bitterness is a very difficult infection to fight. It is actually a root; beware.
Bitterness troubles the offended and defiles many:
The terrible aspect of bitterness is that it destroys both the offended and his family; bitterness destroys the offended and his team; bitterness troubles the offended and defile those who are in a relationship with them. Bitterness spreads and defiles many. It’s is a beast that must be avoided always.
Bitterness leads to senseless clamour, anger, and malice:
Bitterness destroys and breaks up a healthy team. Bitterness can lead to senseless brawl and hatred. I pray that you will be careful about bitterness. Let all of us deal with bitterness, and wrath, and anger, clamour, and evil speaking. Let us put away all malice. Bitterness brings all these things. You know you are bitter when you feel angry, cause clamour, speak evil of the other party, and most of all when you malign them.
Bitterness can make you a fornicator:
Bitterness can compromise your loyalty. Bitterness can make you disloyal. Many people have betrayed trust and goodwill because of bitterness.
“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” (Ephesians 4:31-32 KJV)
The simple ways of dealing with bitterness are:
1. Put away the bitterness, evil speaking, malice, and anger.
Decide not to act in anger nor speak evil of any of the other party. You must avoid every kind of brawl or argument. If you are the kind who starts arguments and wants to win at all cost, then it will be very difficult for you to be healed of the root of bitterness. Put it away.
2. Being kind one to another:
Once you learn to be kind to others, you will win over bitterness. Bitterness is a reflection of cruelty. It leads to most of the destruction we see today. We can get over bitterness by just being kind; being kind in your thoughts, kind with your words, and kind in your actions.
3. Be tender-hearted:
Being tender-hearted makes you intelligent. The callous at heart is foolish and stiff-necked. To be tenderhearted is to be empathetic. To be tenderhearted is to be easy to appease.
4. Forgiving one another:
This is what God expects of us. You cannot be cured of your bitterness until you are ready to forgive. Forgiveness is important in dealing with bitterness. Forgive as Christ forgave you. “Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.” (Colossians 3:13 KJV). Just pardon and release people in your heart if you want to be healed.
It is time to love and live. It is time to be tender-hearted and to forgive those who fail. It is important to save the purity of the family. Stay blessed
