Acts 2:42-47 KJV — And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. [43] And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
[44] And all that believed were together, and had all things common; [45] and sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
[46] And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, [47] praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
It’s normal to feel the compelling desire to work, marry, recreate, and keep fit; but none of these should keep you from serving God faithfully.
The desire to marry, excel at work, recreate, and keep fit are not the consequences of the fall of man. They are actually God’s plan for man. God created man as a social being and to excel at work. These things are part of God’s plan for man. God created us as social beings and it’s normal to feel the compelling desire to excel at marriage, excel in career, socialize, and keep fit. Even though these things are part of God’s plan, many will miss heaven and the banquet of life because of them.
In Luke 14, a king held a feast for his son and invited people; a third of the people missed the banquet because of marriage. They said they had married a wife and can’t be present. Another third missed the banquet because they wanted to try yokes of oxens they had purchased. Another third missed the banquet because of the field they had bought; the only people who made it were the maimed, halted, blind, and poor. Most people miss out on serving God because of promotion and prosperity.
Here are five things you can do to equip and empower you to serve God even as you break out and boom but….
Deuteronomy 8:11, 13-20 KJV — Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day:
[13] and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied;
[14] then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; [15] who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;
[16] who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end; [17] and thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.
[18] But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day. [19] And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.
[20] As the nations which the LORD destroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish; because ye would not be obedient unto the voice of the LORD your God.
This is the will of God. God wants us to keep serving Him faithfully even as we begin to prosper and excel. It is the will of God to prosper and excel. God will not shame us. If you do not want to derail the way you excel then remember to do the following;
- Devote yourself to the teaching and prayer of the apostles. Most people when they begin to excel heap upon themselves teachers. You will do well when you devote yourself to the teaching and prayer of the apostles. [1 Timothy 4:15-17]
- Devote yourself to the fellowship and communion of the apostles. Don’t disconnect from the fellowship when you begin to prosper. Devote yourself to the fellowship.
- Honour the Lord with your substance; your tithes, offerings, and collections. Proverbs 3:9-10 reveal that when we honour the Lord with our substance and the first fruits of our increase, our barns shall be filled and our vats overflow with wine.
- Honour the brotherhood and preserve the bond of peace. It is a pleasant thing for brothers to dwell together. Two are better than one they have a better reward for their labour. Let us preserve the bond of peace.
- Serve the Lord with gladness and joy. The Bible teaches in the book of Job that if we serve the Lord we will lay up gold as dust. Deuteronomy 28:47 downwards teaches that if we don’t serve the Lord our God with gladness, we will serve our enemies.
You can both marry, excel at work, recreate, and keep fit while you serve the Lord faithfully. You are created for this, don’t miss out! Receive the grace to do so!
Today’s Prayer
May the Lord give us the grace to serve God even when we begin to excel and advance.
Amen
