Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the threats of danger, pain, or harm (whether it’s real or imagined). Fear is both positive and negative. God put fear in us to protect us from danger, but any kind of fear that literally paralyzes you and holds you bound is demonic and unhealthy.
Many people, families, churches, and nations have frozen as a result of fear and become impoverished. Let us arise and break the barriers of fear that hold us captive. We shall not be afraid nor be imprisoned by the spirit of fear.
It’s always important to remember that fear could be both physical and spiritual; but whether physical or spiritual, fear has a torment.
When a man is gripped with fear, the body may secrete biochemicals, which are supposed to help the body respond. However, there are times when the body does not have a rational response to the triggers and the fear degenerates into torment.
In the event that the body manifests a disproportionate response to the fear, the response becomes disincentive and negative. There are times when demonic spirits take advantage of the fear you have against you. I pray that every demonic spirit using fear as a weapon against you or your church or your family be bound in the name of Jesus Christ!
There are certain common triggers that may arouse fear; five of such common triggers are: specific objects and situations, future events, imagined events, real environmental dangers, and the unknown.
Specific objects and situations
It may be considered normal if you are afraid of a snake or when you feel alarmed when you hear a big bang or are attacked by a lion. Any of these situations can be traumatizing but should not be paralyzing.
Future events
It may be normal to feel apprehensive if you have a major surgery, an examination, or a court hearing. These could be possible and reasonable triggers.
Imagined events
There are times when you feel overwhelmed and afraid that your marriage may end in divorce and your family will fall apart. It’s an imagined event, which may never even happen. Sometimes it’s imagined but feels real.
Real environmental dangers
Fear may be aroused by facing a tornado, tsunami, walking in a snake-infested field, or having to walk through a dangerous part of town. But there are times when you are just afraid of…
The unknown
Being afraid of the unknown can be paralyzing. In the parable of the talents, one of the servants could not invest his talent because of his fear of the unknown. Any of these things can trigger a feeling of fear.
There are, however, three main responses to fear. We all react to fear differently, but common reactions to fear are either putting up a fight, taking flight, or freezing with fear. Some people fight what they fear, confronting their fears and fighting them off. Others take flight when they are afraid; they run for shelter in a higher place or simply run to nowhere in particular. The worst reaction to fear is freezing. Some people freeze with fear.
The Psalmist in Psalm 61:1-4 prefers the best response to fear.
Psalm 61:1-4 KJV —Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. [2] From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. [3] For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. [4] I will abide in thy tabernacle forever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.
The best response to fear is crying out to God. Pray that the Lord will lead you to the rock that is higher; this is the best response to looming fear and danger. Pray when you are afraid, pray when your heart is overwhelmed. Put your trust in God and in His word. The word of God must be on your mind and in your heart. Let us continually trust in His grace.
Prayer points:
- Thank God for His saving grace. Let us pray that God shall fill us with the spirit of adoption by which we cry, “Abba, Father.”
Romans 8:14-17 — For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. [15] For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, “Abba, Father.”
[16] The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: [17] and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together.
- Let us pray that any demonic spirit using the spirit of fear as a weapon against my family or your family shall be bound! Declare that you are no longer a slave to fear! You are a child of God. The weapon of fear against you and your family shall not work.
- Decree now! Any spirit of bondage and fear that has entered your heart and your home and is tormenting you shall die by fire and by thunder!
- Let us pray that the Lord will fill us with the spirit of love, the spirit of power, and the spirit of a sound mind. Father, fill us with perfect love, power, and a sound mind in the name of Jesus Christ!
- Pray and bind the spirits of fear, terror, dangers, disasters, and sicknesses. We shall not be afraid! We cannot be timid! We shall rise with strength and march forward!
Stay blessed
