1 Chronicles 4:9-10 KJV — And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. [10] And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
The story teaches certain great lessons that may help any of us to move into a large room from where we are.
It is an error to accept the effects of curses as your fate
Many of us like the mother of Jabez, cannot differentiate between the effects of a curse and destiny.
The difference between Jabez and his mother is the fact that he refused to accept the effects of a curse as norm or as his fate.
He knew that life could be far better than what his situation suggested. His mother named him Jabez because he was born in sorrow, but he looked beyond his situation into possibilities. He focussed on what it could be.
Living by your faith in God is the path to a glorious life on earth and in eternity.
Jabez was God-conscious. He knew God. He was conscious of a power higher than himself, his mother, and any man.
He called upon the person who could give what can break the curse. He called upon God to bless him. He knew that only a blessing could overturn the curse.
Jabez asked for four things; Blessings, Enlargement, Presence, and Preservation.
You need more than an answered prayer
Jabez prayed and God granted his request; but he did not stop there. After the request was granted, it was time to work.
It takes Goals, grace, gifts, guts, and grit
1 Corinthians 15:10 KJV — But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
