Ephesians 5:22-23, 25-33 KJV — Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. [23] For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. [25] Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
[26] that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, [27] that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. [28] So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
[29] For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: [30] for we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. [31] For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
[32] This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. [33] Nevertheless, let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
Most marriages end in divorce because the people don’t choose right. Most young couples focus too much on chemistry and friendship and avoid the tough questions. The Bible requires that every woman submits to her own husband and husbands love their wives as Christ loved the church. These are the two key ingredients that make Christian marriages last. They are not the only things you need but this is what will preserve the bond.
The three (3) tough questions to ask and answer before agreeing to settle down in a covenant relationship are:
- Can he lead me? Does he have foresight, insight, and discipline to take initiative that benefits us? Can I trust his judgement? Would he always consider how I feel and make decisions that have our well-being at heart. Can he lead this family we are able to create in the will of God? Every young man must choose a woman he can lead and love passionately; even to give himself for, as Christ gave Himself for the church.
- Can I submit and follow him? It’s much easier following a man who factors in your needs and emotions into his decisions and choices. Does he love and care? Does he know the will of God for his family? Does he know and care about your needs? Following a man who doesn’t know the will of God for his family, nor care about what your needs are can be challenging. Every young woman must choose a person who can lead her and to whom she can submit passionately to.
- Can you grow together? Do you understand that people change and that change affects their relationship with others? Hence the need to grow together if you are going to stay married? That Bible requires a man to cherish and nourish his wife to maturity. Can you grow together? Will he lead you to the place where you can be taught and nurtured to grow? The church, which is the grounds and pillar of truth? Every couple must grow and become compatible sexually, in the expression of faith, socially, with visions and goals.
I wish you a blessed marriage and health. May you never regret marrying. Learn to grow together and you will stay together till death do you a part.
Bless you
