[Mark 9:17-29 KJV] “And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought
unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit; and wheresoever he taketh him, he
teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and
I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.”
“He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you?
how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me. And they brought him unto him:
and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the
ground, and wallowed foaming.”
“And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of
a child. And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to
destroy him: but if thou canst do anything, have compassion on us, and help
us. Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him
that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said
with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.”
“When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit,
saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and
enter no more into him. And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out
of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead. But Jesus
took him by the hand, and lifted him up, and he arose.”
“And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could
not we cast him out? And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by
nothing, but by prayer and fasting.”
I want to exhort you on how to deal with impossible situations. It is important to understand that every now and then,
we could be confronted with near-impossible situations. There are times when
what you are dealing with is out of the norm. A novice and an inexperienced
person might take it at phase value, but the truth will remain that some things
are for seniors.
In their calling and career development, the disciples of Christ hit a difficult task; one that they had never faced. They had dealt with situations that looked similar but this was different. They struggled for hours without results but when the master arrived, he did it by one word. How was he able to do it so easily?
The answer is simple;
He believed it could be done.
- He had prepared through fasting and prayer.
- He sought to understand the situation.
- He did not make room for questions and debate.
- He acted only when the man took responsibility of his
own situation.
1. Our Lord Jesus was not a performer but a helper of the
man's joy:
The Lord was not there to prove a point. He
was only present to help the man receive what he can believe for. You cannot
come and dump your problems on God and go to sleep; you must be willing to do
your part by active faith that acts. You cannot come and dump your problems on
us and join the debaters to argue. You must be ready to act in faith.
2. If we begin to think it cannot be done, we are doomed:
The Lord said they were unable to solve the
problems because they believed it cannot be done. Whatever it takes, you must
admit that it can be done. There is nothing like it cannot be done. It can be
done and we must find a way of doing it. Church planting, church growth, church
consolidation, church spread, and penetration are possible. Nothing shall be
impossible to the man that believes. Do you believe it is possible?
3. Prepare yourself spiritually:
Some things only answer to the supernatural.
The Lord said, “somethings will only yield to fasting and prayer.”
Many of us are not doing the impossible because we are not spiritually poised
and prepared to bring forth certain things. When Daniel took the challenge to
show the king his dream and the meaning; he entered into fasting and prayer
with his friends.
4. Understand the problems:
Though the Lord had fasted and prayed, he
acted on the scene. We may fast and pray but we must still act. Fasting and
prayer can't balance your accounts but can uncover the
hidden frauds. Fasting and prayer may not perform the surgery but can help you
discover the way to safely perform it.
Fasting and pray may not build the house but
it will empower your mind to understand the situation. Our Lord Jesus Christ
did not just jump to a conclusion; he asked wise questions to understand the
situation. This is the time to quiz, understand, plan, and act decisively!
5. Don't make room for questions:
The Lord did not make room for debate and
questions. Questions will kill your faith. You must not allow useless
questions. The faith of Eve was overthrown because she allowed questions from a
serpent. I pay that you can be focused with questions.
Stay blessed
