The Bible tell us that the thief comes not except to steal, to kill and to destroy. The devil has a purpose whenever he is coming; his purpose is to steal, kill, and destroy you. He is seeking someone whom he may devour. That is his reason and purpose. We must be armed against the operations of this thief and we must work hard to resist him.
[Isaiah 59:19 KJV] “So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him”.
The Bible says that we wrestle not against flesh and blood. Indeed, there are spiritual powers that wrestle against each one of us. We must be able to overcome them in order to live a fruitful life.
Isaiah 59:19 teaches that the devil comes in like a flood. He comes both subtly and inundating. He comes to flood you and to cause you to lose your integrity. Whenever the devil attacks you, he is after your integrity and faith. The devil is after your integrity and faith.
We read how God challenged the devil concerning the integrity of Job, his servant. The Lord spoke of Job as a father will speak proudly of his son who has a lot of integrity.
[ Job 2:3 KJV] “And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause”.
Job’s wife was also used to attack his faith and integrity. In Job 2:9, the Bible says, “Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.” Everybody around Job knew that whatever was chasing him was after his integrity.
Later in the Scriptures, however, we also learn that when the devil attacks, he wants you to lose your faith. “But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren” [Luke 22:32 KJV]
However, “when the enemy shall come in a flood, the spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him”. The spirit of the Lord will resist him for us. Let us trust the Holy Spirit to be a defense for us. Our real defense and protection against darkness are the Holy Spirit. Be blessed!
