1 Corinthians 16:2 KJV — Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
Giving offerings is one of the most important Christian acts. God wants His children to partner with Him in building the family and the kingdom. When the early church gathered, apart from praying, breaking bread, and sharing the word of God, one of the main things they did on the first day of the week, which is Sunday, was to take offerings.
As you see in the text above that, Apostle Paul is encouraging the church to prepare an offering to give on the first day of the week meeting.
There are three main types of giving:
- Giving within your means
- Giving above your means
- Giving sacrificially
The text above was recommending that the brethren gave as the Lord had prospered them to Christian charity. I exhort you to do the same, to store up and to give as the Lord has prospered you. You will never regret being committed with giving. There are many benefits to having and partnering with your pastor or minister.
- Giving opens a greater financial door.
- Giving averts mishaps and bad omen.
- Giving directs your heart to the receiver. “Where your treasure is there your heart will also be also.“
May the Lord bless you! May He open new doors of possibilities to you! May the Lord give you the spirit and the grace to give
Prayer
Pray that the Lord shall give us the grace to give and give sacrificially. Father, open our understanding and give us the commitment to partner with Your servant financially. Lord, we are Your children who have a covenant with You by sacrifice. Help us to be faithful! Amen!
