“And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved” (Acts 2:40-47 KJV)
Most often than not, we are unable to tell when there is a revival. We confuse the shaking and rattling noise with the move of God. We live in a time when without flashing lights, massive choir, and deafening noise, we cannot feel the presence of God.
In today’s devotional, I share with you the five signs of a great move of God:
1. Intense praying and preaching of the gospel in the city:
After the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the early church went into intense prayer and preaching. The church preached in all of the then world. The cities were filled with the prayer of the church and the word of God. As a result, many came to believe.
2. Mighty baptism and manifestation of the Holy Ghost:
The second sign of the great awakening was the mighty baptism and manifestation of the Holy Spirit. The Bible tells us that those who believed were baptised. Many of them prayed in tongues and prophesied.
3. Tangible working of signs and wonders by the apostles:
After the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the converts continued with the apostles and God began to work with them. There were many signs, wonders and miracles, and mighty deeds.
4. Commanding the fear of God through holiness:
We are told that the fear of God came upon every soul. The church lived a real and authentic life among the unbeliever. A true sign of revival is holiness and authentic living.
5. Church growth:
The Lord added to them daily. In this great awakening, the Lord will add unto us. The churches will grow and expand.
These are the five signs of a great awakening or revival in the city.
