How to develop a personal prayer life

‭1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJV‬ — Pray without ceasing.

If you really want to shine as lights in a crooked and perverse generation, I will exhort you to develop a personal prayer life. You must resolve to pray without ceasing. This is one of the only ways to win over all the darkness that confronts you.

I would implore you to take at least 15 minutes every morning to pray. I said at least, that is to say that you can do more than 15 minutes if your schedule would allow you. I wish above all things that everyone of us will spend at least 15 minutes in quiet time everyday.

If you want to have an effective quiet time tomorrow then iron your clothes and pack your bags tonight. Pack your bags for work tonight, iron your clothes, and make a to-do list tonight. You don’t have to run at the beck and call or everyone; hence the need to plan tomorrow today.

Except for emergencies, everything else that comes up tomorrow must be taken to the next day. Ironing your clothes, packing your bags and preparing a to-do list tonight will help free up some time for you to pray tomorrow at dawn.

How to have a daily quiet time

Having an effective quiet time involves three simple things:

  1. Sing two or three simple songs of worship to tune your heart and mind to receive.
  2. Pray using Matthew 6:9-13, as a prayer guide. It’s easier to pray when you have an effective prayer list.
  3. Write down your dreams and thoughts that occur to you, while praying

Honestly, having effective quiet times has the following direct benefits;

  • Enhances your intimacy with God
  • Helps you to maintain fellowship with the Holy Spirit
  • Help you to maintain God-consciousness.
  • Reminds you of the role of God in every affairs of men.

Have a daily prayer guide

Many of us wish we could pray but don’t even know what to say in prayer. Here are simple tips to guide you into building a personal prayer life.

  1. Pray that the name of the Lord will be a strong tower for your day (See Psalm 91)
  2. Pray for the salvation of all men, for the body of Christ, for the local congregation, and for your pastor. Pray that God will give him utterance, and deliver him from wicked and unreasonable men.
  3. Pray that the will and plan of God to bring you to an expected end shall be implemented. May the will of God be done on the earth, in this country, in your city, and in your life!
  4. Pray for your needs and issues that are of concern to you; child birth, a new job, life partner, health, your family, and anything on your heart.
  5. Pray for forgiveness and restoration. May the Lord forgive and restore the joy of His salvation unto you.
  6. Pray that God will lead and deliver you from temptation and from evil. Rebuke devils and exercise your authority in the name of Jesus Christ!

If you spent just a minute or two on each prayer topic, you would have spent 12 minutes in prayer. If you find a release on a particular day on any of these points, you can stay on a littlemore as you please.

Bless you
