How can you hear from God, and how does He speak?
In the year of walking in the manifest glory, there are 5 simple steps to see and walk in the glory of God; Believe, Pray, Prophesy, Plan, and Pursue your goals with power and passion.
We understand this from the resurrection of Lazarus from the dead. Where as Mary and Martha saw the glory of God, Lazarus walked in the manifest glory. John 11 reading from verses 40 downwards explains this more clearly.
They needed to believe, Jesus prayed and called forth Lazarus, someone needed a plan to lose Lazarus to go. In this year of walking in the manifest glory; we must learn to believe, pray, prophesy, plan, and pursue our purpose with power and passion.
In this first month, I want to exhort everyone to take a step of faith towards a goal. This will require that we can hear and promptly obey God. So, we want to study how to hear the voice of God.
In trying to hear the voice of God, we must try to understand the dynamics of communication. Every form of communication has four key elements:
- Symbols
- Encoding
- Decoding
- Mode of transmission
Each of us can hear God for prompt obedience when we understand how God speaks, the symbols He uses in encoding, and how to decode the symbols.
1. Dreams and Visions
We must understand that God speaks through dreams and visions.
[Numbers 12:6-8 KJV] “And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream. My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.”
“With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the Lord shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?”
God speaks to the sons of men through dreams and visions of the night.
[Job 33:14-18 KJV]“For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction, That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.”
The prophet Joel also prophesied this.
[Joel 2:28 KJV]“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:”
The dispensation of the Holy Spirit is a dispensation of dreams and visions.
2. God speaks to us by His Servants
God also speaks through His servants, not necessarily the prophets
The rich man in the story of Lazarus pleaded with father Abraham to send someone from the grave to come and warn his brothers, but father Abraham said:
[Luke 16:29-31 KJV] “Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.”
Listen! God will not send anyone from the grave to you if you cannot listen to Moses and the prophets. God speaks to us through His servants.
3. God speaks to us by the Scriptures
The Apostle Peter teaches us that even though there are so many ways in which God speaks; the most authentic way by which God speaks is by the Scriptures. This is because the Scriptures have the unique character of having no private interpretation.
[2 Peter 1:19-21 KJV] “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”
4. God speaks to us by the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit leads, prompts, convictions, teaches, nudges, etc. God speaks, and He is still speaking by His Spirit.
The most authentic way to hear God is by the Scriptures. This is a more sure way of prophecy. This is the first step to taking a leap of faith.
God bless you, I love you!
