[Philippians 1:27-28 AMP] “Only [be sure to] lead your lives in a manner [that will be] worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I do come and see you or remain absent, I will hear about you that you are standing firm in one spirit [and one purpose], with one mind striving side by side [as if in combat] for the faith of the gospel. [28] And in no way be alarmed or intimidated [in anything] by your opponents, for such [constancy and fearlessness on your part] is a [clear] sign [a proof and a seal] for them of [their impending] destruction, but [a clear sign] for you of deliverance and salvation, and that too, from God”.
Many of us do well when we are being watched or supervised, but only a few do well on their own without supervision. The text we are reading above is a part of a letter Apostle Paul wrote to the church in the Philippines. He wrote this letter from prison and was exhorting the church to keep the faith even in his absence. This piece of truth is necessary for us in these uncertain times. This truth is important to guide each of us to understand how to keep faith with God and with our pastor.
The truth, therefore, remains that whether present or absent a pastor expects the church and the brethren to live a life that is befitting the gospel. God and I expect you to live a life that is worthy of the faith. Every one of us should endeavour that we will live worthy of the gospel. The truth is you did better when we could gather and meet weekly. Now we are not going to be meeting any time sooner; remember the world system is getting ready for the full manifestation of the antichrist. We must strive to live a life worthy of the gospel among people who may not know what we believe.
The Apostle was wishing that if he could ever hear about their affairs; he wants to hear that they were doing the following things;
Standing firm in one spirit: You must stand firm in one spirit. I want to hear that you are standing in one spirit. I don’t want you to do your own thing. I want you to flow in the Spirit as you would have if I was watching. Don’t wait till I am watching before you do the rights that I have taught you. Stand firm in the Spirit. Stand firm in the Spirit.
Striving together for the faith in the gospel: All of us, as good soldiers, must strive together to defend the faith in the gospel. We want to defend the gospel and strive to get more people to defend the faith in the gospel. Let us contend for the faith and strive in combat for the faith.
Finally, that they were bold and fearless before terror and intimidation of the adversary: You must stand up for the truth and what you believe.
I pray that you shall stand firm in the Spirit, contend for the faith, and be bold and fearless before terror and intimidation of the adversary. May you not chicken out! May the Lord be your help to keep faith in uncertain times. And always remember, I may not be watching you but God is!
Be blessed, I love you!
