[Proverbs 26:2 KJV] “As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
Many years ago, Balak, the son of Zippor, the king of Moab engaged the prophet, Balaam, to curse Israel as they were journeying from Egypt to the Promised Land. Balak heard that the people were swallowing up many nations and thought that he must do something before they swallowed up his own nation too.
To be able to curse them, Balak needed a spiritual man, a sacrifice, an altar, an exalted location, and lastly, the curse must have a cause. He, therefore, engages the prophet Balaam, he gave him seven bullocks, built an altar, took him to a mountain, but they failed to curse Israel because they could not find a cause. They finally resorted to creating a cause in order to succeed.
[Numbers 23:18-25 KJV] “And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor: God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it. He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the Lord his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them. God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn. Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought! Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain. And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all”.
We know that a curse causeless shall not come. The devil will always seek a cause and if he finds none, he would try to create one.
There are simple signs that point to the presence of a curse operating in one’s life:
- When your circumstance is pleasant, yet you keep getting poor results
- When your pace of progress in life is slower than the effort you are exerting.
- When no amount of counsel seems to make sense to you. Ahab and Jehoshaphat went to war, even though the prophet had told them that Ahab will die that battle.
- When you suffer usual loses or defeats; For instance, Joshua before Ai (See Joshua 7)
Having established that a curse causeless with not settle, we can state that when causes are dealt with, we can live above curses. You can live above curses and operate from a realm of blessings.
1 John 1:1-10, teaches that when we (1) Admit, (2) Believe, (3) Confess, and (4) Continue in the faith and fellowship, we will live above curses.
The presence of God and the shout of the king which is the voice of prophecy; the prophet said the lion has roared, who shall not fear? (See Amos 3:8)
The Bible tells us that when we continue in fellowship, then the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin; and when we admit the presence of sin in our lives and confess those sins, “He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness”.
To live above curses, and to be immune to curses, we need;
- Fellowship: The presence of the Lord among us.
- Prophecy: The shout of the king; the voice of a prophet. For instance, the voice of Lord speaking through me right now is very important in helping you to live above curses (See 1 John 1:1-6).
- Repentance and Faith: Self-righteousness is a grievous foolishness. If we say we are without sin, we are liars, and the truth and the word of God are not in us. You must walk in the light as God is in the light; but if you miss it, admit that you have missed it, believe you can be forgiven and restored, confess that Jesus is Lord, and continue in the same grace.
You shall live above curses.
Stay blessed, I love you!
