[Romans 12:8 KJV] “Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness”.
We know that we have been called to do the first works; each of us, therefore, has work to do. As I have always said, the first works include being able to exhort one another. There are, however, some of us specially graced in the body of Christ to exhort.
The Bible then admonishes us to wait on exhorting if we have such a grace. I believe that each of us ought to develop our ability to exhort in these times. We should be able to speak a word in season to people around us. These are times when we are unable to gather in masses assemblies.
How then do you prepare an exhortation?
A good exhortation comes from preparation. A poor preparation will lead to a poor exhortation. Therefore, to prepare a good message: pray, plan, prepare, practice, and preach. To prepare a good exhortation, follow the following steps;
- Decide on What you want to say, Why your audience should take note of it, and How that knowledge can be applied.
- Carefully select your frame of reference: by prophecy, revelation, knowledge, or doctrine. Any of these four sources can have a relevant frame of reference.
- Note your key points on a piece of sheet, even if you have it on an electronic gadget; under the heading: what do I want to say or have to say? Why is it important to take note? How can this truth be applied?
- Think through what you have noted, shortly before the meeting. Memories at least the key points, and get ready for the meeting; dress approximately for the meeting.
I have no doubt that the Lord would empower you to be a minister to your family and the people around you. You shall be a priest to your family and friends and together, we can reach the world for Jesus Christ.
Stay blessed and stay safe, I love you!
