Today’s message is on how to recieve prophecy, and what your attitude should be when it comes to prophesying, so let’s start.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 KJV — “Rejoice evermore. [17] Pray without ceasing. [18] In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. [19] Quench not the Spirit. [20] Despise not prophesyings. [21] Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. [22] Abstain from all appearance of evil.“
The simple secret to set the atmosphere for prophecy is to create an atmosphere of praise, prayer, and expectation; we can however receive prophecy when we learn these few tips:
Quench not the spirit; stir the spirit through praise, faith and expectation
Saul was able to prophesy too when he met the company of the prophet that were prophesying in the midst of praise and dancing. One key step to stir the prophetic is to put the prophet at ease. There were many widows in Samaria but the prophet was sent to none, because they were not ready to receive the word. The widow at Zarapeth was prepared to receive it.
The Prophetic operates in an atmosphere of faith, praise and prayer. The prophet actually prophesies according to his measure of faith; and we must receive it with faith and expectation.
Despise not prophesying
This is of utmost importance because, spiritual things are spiritually discerned and a carnal man can not receive them; they are foolishness to him. Prophecy can easily pass for foolishness. Speaking for God who calls the things that are not as though they were can actually make you look silly and foolish.
Don’t ever, in your life despise prophesying; even if you don’t believe shut up! The man who despised the prophecy of a barley of wheat being sold for a shekel died miserably.
Prove all things and hold fast to all that is good; but abstain from all appearances of evil
Prophecy is supposed to be judged. You must always judge every prophecy by the light of scripture. You cannot swallow any prophecy hook, line, and sinker. You must prove all things and hold fast to that which is good.
Remember, the prophet knows in part and prophesy in part. The prophet doesn’t know everything; hence the need to weigh his word to you.
Stay blessed
