How to Stand Against the Wiles of the Enemy

[Ephesians 6:11‭-‬20 KJV] “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”

Life is not a free-fall through space. It is a meandering path through many obstacles and barriers like a stream flowing in a rocky mountain.

Some of the major obstacles that you must break through are spiritual. They are barriers that are set up by unseen forces. Many things stand up against each of us from the unseen realms. Sometimes the barriers we have to navigate are social, political, genetic, institutional, or cultural. Often, they are unseen and spiritual.

In the days of the captivity of Israel in Babylon, while they thought they were dealing with political barriers, Daniel was confronting the princes of Persia, Mede, and Grecia. Some people can choose to say that there are no spiritual forces, but we know too much to be this silly. I know too much to pretend that I don’t know that the spirit world is real. The world of spirits is too real, and we cannot pretend.
