[Acts 20:17-24] “And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church.
(18) And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons,
(19) Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:
(20) And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house,
(21) Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
(22) And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there:
(23) Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.
(24) But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
The will of God is for each of us to overcome to the end; however, many run and abandon their first love and first faith after some time. Many get weary and fatigued and return from their first love and faith. I, however, believe with all of my heart that each of us can finish our cause and race and receive the crown that God has prepared for us.
Many are unable to finish their course because they cannot serve the Lord with humility of mind, many tears, and temptation:
Ministry is not for proud and highminded people. Ministry is for modest people. Until you can accept a simple and modest life, you cannot serve the Lord. Apostle Paul served the Lord with humility of mind and with many tears and temptations. No high-minded person can serve God. You must be content with what the Lord has provided.
Many are afraid of the afflictions that await them if they keep obeying God:
Apostle Paul was determined not to be afraid. He was determined to finish his course. Don’t stay in one place and die, but don’t quit doing what you have been called to do. The truth is, affliction will always arise because of the word. Like Joseph, until your time comes, your feet may be hurt by fetters of iron and chains (See Psalm 105:18)
If you really want to finish your course, then reach for things that are before and not those things that are behind:
Lot’s wife became a pillar of salt because she looked back. She could not embrace and focus on where God was leading, she rather kept looking back. Nobody finishes that way. Remember, you were called to meet a mark. You were called to meet a mark and attain unto a stature. You must run to meet that mark and not to just be better than others. The Scriptures say that God wants all of us to grow to the stature of Christ.
[Ephesians 4:11-13] “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
(12) For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
(13) Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:“
We were called to finish a course, let us run so we can finish well.
Don’t be deceived by your present status:
Just beware and take caution if you are still standing. In fact, the whore you see today was once a virgin. Don’t be too impressed with yourself present standing. Keep being careful and respect the same rules and same things by which you have come this far.
If you are running today be careful, many used to run like you. If you are walking, be careful, because many used to walk too. Don’t be deceived to think you are special because you are still standing. Many started like you but lack of diligence and negligence derailed their conviction.
Don’t allow the wrong people to speak into your life:
There are times when many people don’t finish their cause because they allow carnal family members and friends to persuade them with hollow philosophies.
Our Lord Jesus Christ was fought by his friends. They came to arrest him and thought He was mad, simply because He was totally given to the work of God.
[Mark 3:20-21] “And the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.
(21) And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself”.
Apostle Paul faced the same temptation when the church tried to dissuade him from going to Jerusalem.
Many of the times many of us fail to finish our course and overcome to the end because we allow the wrong people to speak into our lives. We allow the wrong people to advise us. We allow carnal people to be our counselors.
Peter tried to rebuke Jesus Christ when He decided to walk in the will of God. Not everybody must speak into your life. Don’t allow everybody to speak into your life. You must arise and feed your convictions with the word of God.
When David decided to fight Goliath, his elder brothers decided to talk down at him and talk him out. Have you decided to obey God, don’t allow anyone to speak into your life adversely.
I heard a voice that said, “finish your course!” You shall finish your course. You will serve the Lord with humility of mind and with joy. You shall not be afraid of the things that may befall you. Serving the Lord is never in vain. You will win. And God will not forget your labour of love! Amen!
Stay blessed, I love you!
