[1 Corinthians 11:20-22 KJV] “When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord’s supper. For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken”.
“What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not”.
I see 4 mysteries in this text
- Purpose and Preparation
- Time and Place
- People and Journeying
- Together
The apostle Paul explains that certain things should be done at home and not in church. Nobody should be allowed to take advantage of the brethren meeting for a selfish end. Don’t allow people to use your meeting as a joint for multilevel marketing, lovers joint, settling score.
Every meeting has a purpose and that purpose must be respected. Don’t create a haven for thieves and robbers. Everybody must know the purpose of the meeting and prepare for blessings.
The apostle also uses the word “when” meaning there should be specific meeting times and place. The apostle stated emphatically that when you come together in one place; he was mentioning time and space. “When” means we must come together; and “one place” is clear; a place that we connect.
The third mystery is that of people and journey. When you come… we must be willing to travel. Abraham traveled for 3 days to arrive at Moriah just to sacrifice. We must be willing to travel to attend a meeting. You should not look for convenience; we must be ready to invest time and effort and resources into meetings and worship.
The fourth mystery is the gathering and fellowshipping. It is not just about coming to a place but joining in fellowship. We must strive hard to come together. We must bury our differences and flow together.
Stay blessed
