Luke 18:1-8 KJV — And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; [2] saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
[3] and there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. [4] And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
[5] yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. [6] And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
[7] And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? [8] I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
One of the classic examples of prayer taught by the Lord on prayer is the text above. He told the story to make only one point: He taught that no matter how hopeless your situation might seem, your persistent prayer will always yield a breakthrough. Delays are not denials! The story of the vulnerable widow and the unjust judge tells a clear story!
George Müller, a man of faith in the 1800s, prayed for five of his friends to come to Christ. He prayed daily for them. It was after years, three got saved. The fourth got saved after 35 years. The fifth got saved after Müller’s death, more than 50 years later. Persistent prayer may not be answered immediately, but God always moves in His time.
Sometimes you flip a light switch and the bulb doesn’t come on. You don’t give up immediately. You rather check the connection, the bulb, or the power source.
Persistence in prayer is like keeping the connection alive until the power flows. Don’t quit because you don’t see immediate light. Stay connected to God through prayer.
In 1 Kings 18:42–44 Elijah prayed for rain after a long drought on the Mount Carmel. He sent his servant seven times to look for signs. Six times, nothing. The seventh time, a small cloud appeared. Elijah did not stop after one or two prayers; his persistence brought rain. Prayer may not show results immediately, but persistence brings breakthrough.
Remember that
- True faith knows what it seems. True faith is based on biblical dogma and inspiration.
- Truth faith does not give up when answers are delayed. Let us learn to trust God’s timing.
- Refuse to quit even if the situation seems hopeless.
- Unwavering prayer is the bridge and key to supernatural intervention.
