Life is not a leisure walk in a park, stop pointing fingers and start throwing punches!

1 Samuel 30:6-10 KJV — And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God. [7] And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.

[8] And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all. [9] So David went, he and the six hundred men that were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind stayed.

[10] But David pursued, he and four hundred men: for two hundred abode behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor.

Much as I wish life was a walk through a recreational park, it isn’t! Life is rather an intricate dance with nature and the invisible world. The rhythms are dynamic and the tempo can change at any time. You must develop your sense of timing and become strong if you can pull through the many difficult things life may throw at you.

The story above tells how David and his men returned from an attempt to fight as mercenaries only to find that their camp had been ransacked and their wives and children carried away. This happened when they were away to fight along the Philistines against Saul, the king of Israel. At a point the philistines refused to allow David and his men to fight for them. They asked them to leave the camp. This, at the time, looked like redemption but God was planning to save David’s family.

Sometimes, what might seem like a disappointment is actually a set up to deliver you and your family.  When David and his men returned from what seemed like a rejection; they found their families had been carried away by the Amelekites. The Bible says they wept until there was no strength to weep; and as usual the men began to look for someone to blame.

Listen, life is not a leisure walk through a park; stop pointing fingers and start throwing punches. This is a fight you were born into; start fighting or die. The difference between David and his men is the fact that David knew that blaming others for your trouble gets nothing done. He took responsibility and began to enquire of the Lord for direction. He arose and fought for his family, and in the end he and recovered all.

May the Lord give you the same courage to arise and fight. This is the time to throw punches and not to play the blame game. Whether you like it or not the clock is ticking and we must fight and win at all costs.

Prophetic Prayer

  • Pray that God will give you the grace to run the race of life with patience. Pray that God will help you to navigate through the dangerous waters of this life.
  • Pray that you will be able to rebound and fight the good fight of faith. Pray for rebound energy! Pray for grace!
  • Thank God for a second chance to make it work!

Stay blessed!
