“And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.”
“Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.”
“When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.” (Luke 5:1-11 KJV)
Life is not always as we would have it. There are times when the unexpected happens. There are times when we miss the best times and life does not deliver as we have planned it. Many of life’s issues may turn out otherwise, but it’s never too late to pick up the broken pieces and give God another chance to help you make progress.
In the story we read, we see how Simon and the sons of Zebedee made progress despite the bad night at sea. These fisher folks could pick up the broken pieces and made progress. Don’t sit in shambles for too long. It is time to pull yourself together and take action on your dreams and aspirations.
If you can make progress in spite of the contrary circumstances of life, then like Peter, you must;
Do what men can do:
Peter and his partners had done what men can do; they had toiled all night and had caught nothing. It’s important for me to point out to you that they were not idling about. They had sown themselves into their dream. These were hardworking men and women. They had toiled all night. We must learn to do due diligence.
Support the work of God:
Peter gave what he had to support missions; he had a boat and he gave it. If he had a house, he would have given it for house fellowship. You can make progress gathering from the broken pieces if you really decide to give to missions. Your seeds and offerings are important connections to your miracle. Simon gave his boat and was connected to grace to deliver results. May your seed and offerings connect you to miracles.
Help in the work of God:
Simon Peter served by thrusting the boat further, he did not just give his boat but he served to make the preaching of the gospel possible. He gave the boat and pushed it further. You will make progress and advance if you choose to serve in missions. Remember the shunamite woman; she gave the prophet a room and served him. We have brought our seed and thanksgiving, but we must serve in the mission.
Hear and obey:
When the Lord told him to launch into the deep, he obeyed even though it was contrary to what he thought was right. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. You must have faith in God, in His men and in miracles. This year, I choose to believe God, his prophets and in miracles.
Everyone of us càn pick up the broken pieces and advance in life. You are not finished! God will work a miracle. Believe in God! Believe in His prophets! Believe in miracles!
Stay blessed, I love you!
