[Luke 10:1-3 KJV] “After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. [2] Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. [3] Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves”.
As we step out carrying on with the Lord’s business daily, we walk in the midst of wolves and devils that seek to steal, kill, and destroy us. The truth, however, remains that we can overcome and make these devils subject to us by engaging with divine truths. We have what it takes to stop devils and subdue them.
When you read Luke 10, you will understand how devils were subject to the early church. The Bible says, “And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name”.
The seventy returned rejoicing that devils were subject to them; these same devils are subject to us today. Everyone of us can subdue these devils if we are ready to do what the early church did. What did the early church do? They walked with wisdom among them that are without; they arose to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and devils; and they rejoiced in all things because their names were written in Heaven.
We can also overcome devils if can do the following;
1. Be ready to walk as wise as serpents:
The Bible encourages us to be circumspect and walk as wise not as fools, redeeming the time because the days are evil.
[Colossians 4:5 KJV] “Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time”.
We are sent as lambs among wolves and we need to walk with the wisdom of serpents in our everyday life. We need to be wise as serpents to survive out there. “Wisdom is the principal thing, so in all thy getting get wisdom, get understanding“. We are God’s agents sent to heal the sick and preach the kingdom in the nations. We are sent as lambs among wolves, hence the need to be as wise as serpents.
The world has become a dangerous place now. We ought to be wise. Things are not the same anymore. As the final day draws close, men have grown worse. Those who can overcome devils in these times must walk in wisdom.
2. Arise and tread upon serpents, scorpions and every power of the enemy:
We have been given the power to do so, and we must arise and act with that power. The same devils that were subject to the early church, must be subject to us in His name; the same name, Jesus!
[Luke 10:18-24 KJV] “And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. [19] Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. [20] Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. [21] In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight. [22] All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him. [23] And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see: [24] For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them ; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them”.
We must therefore arise and beat down devils. The life of victory goes beyond taking a leisure walk through life confessing that devils are subject to us. We cannot be at ease in Zion: we must rise to tread upon serpents, scorpions, and every power of the enemy.
The devil may have fallen as lightning from heaven, but remember, he did not just fall; he was fought, defeated and cast down from heaven (See Revelations 12)
The truth is, as we step out, there are three things that seek to destroy, hurt and harm us; the serpents, scorpions and powers of the enemy. Read my book, Influencing Your World with Light; (Available at; https://simpebediako.com/product/influencing-your-world-with-light/ ); See page 52 onwards.
We have the power but we must act. Having power over devils means nothing, except you arise to tread upon every serpent, scorpion, and power of the enemy. If you really want to be free, you must also arise and fight him fiercely. Resist him, fight him until he is defeat, and cast him out. The devil did not just fall, the angels in heaven fought him by the blood of the lamb, by the word of their testimony, and by not loving their lives even unto death. If you don’t arise to tread upon the devils, they will destroy things (See James 4:7). Remember, the devils, serpents and scorpions and powers are enemies seeking to hurt and harm you. We cannot sit aloof and watch on, because things don’t just sort themselves out.
3. Rejoice in all things because our names are written in Heaven;
Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, life will not turn out the way you planned it, but as long as your names are written in Heaven, you must learn to rejoice. You should not joke with your salvation and eternal life. The greater victory is to make it to the end. The greatest victory is when the Lord shall say to you, “Well done, good and faith servant you have fought a good fight”. Don’t let whatever you face out there discourage you. Rejoice that your name is written in heaven.
You are blessed. If you can understand this message, you are blessed. It takes grace to understand such revelations and reasoning. There is not greater blessing than to understand spiritual things. Many people don’t understand spiritual things and cannot understand spiritual things. You are blessed!
