Listen, the truth is, we are making a journey to the promise and one thing that can get us there, is a commitment to serve. The most important thing in life is to find and define your race, to run your race, to finish your course, and to keep the faith. There is nothing as important as this.
[Deuteronomy 10:12-13 KJV] “And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, To keep the commandments of the Lord , and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?”
There is no sense in gaining the whole world and eventually losing your soul. Money may be good, marriage may be good, children are good, but none is as useful as gaining your soul. If you gain all this and lose your soul, you have gained nothing.
In the text above, we learn that God wants us to serve. In fact, He requires us to serve Him with all of our hearts. It’s important to remember that to serve is to perform duties and services for someone. God wants us to serve Him in prayer, in fasting, in His house, in missions and on the mountains of life. He wants us to reach others with the gospel, visit the sick and the prisoners, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and shelter the homeless. God wants each of us to minister and touch others for Him.
- We can serve the Lord in ministry;
Anna served in prayer and fasting for 70 years and you can serve the Lord in prayer and fasting too. Time invested in the kingdom is never wasted.
- We can also serve the Lord in the marketplace of life;
On any of the seven mountains of life: in religions, family and health, politics and governance, education, science, and technology, in business and commerce, or in arts and entertainment. You can serve the Lord by serving men, men created in His own image.
- We can also serve the Lord in the house of the Lord as Moses;
He served the people of God in the house of God. The time you spend in singing and sweeping and cleaning the house of God is never wasted.
In any case, if you decide to serve, then you must;
1. Serve with all your heart:
That is how God wants us to serve him. He wants us to serve with all of our hearts. (Deuteronomy 10:12) When it comes to serving, the Lord wants us to be totally committed.
2. Serve with sincerity and truth:
This is how the Lord wants to be served. God wants us to serve Him with sincerity and truth. He has a lot of respect for people who serve in truth and serve sincerely (See Joshua 24:14). If you have decided to serve the Lord, then serve with all of your heart. Don’t go after strange idols. Do you remember Cain and Abel, the Lord had respect for the sacrifice of Abel than that of Cain.
God delivers those who serve Him with sincerity and truth from the enemy. The Lord will deliver you from the enemy when you serve Him. The Lord delivers those who serve Him and do not go running after dumb idols.
[1 Samuel 7:3 KJV] “And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the Lord with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtoreth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the Lord , and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines”.
When we return unto the Lord with all of our hearts, put away the strange gods and prepare our hearts to serve the Lord and only Him; He will deliver us from the hand of the enemy.
3. Serve Him with a perfect heart and a willing mind:
If you really want to get results in serving the Lord, then you must serve Him with a perfect heart and a willing mind. God does not need any to serve him grudgingly. He wants us to serve with a perfect heart and a willing mind. The king admonished his son on how to get the favour by serving the Lord.
[1 Chronicles 28:9 KJV] “And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever”.
When you seek and serve the Lord with a perfect heart and a willing mind; He would found of us and His grace will always be upon us.
We enjoy the following blessings when we follow the Lord fully and serve Him with all of our hearts, in sincerity and truth, with a perfect heart and a willing mind;
1. The Lord will honour us with greatness;
The Bible teaches in John 12:26, that God honours those who serve Christ and follow Him thoroughly. When we follow fully, God will Honour us. The Lord will honour you with greatness when you serve and follow His son thoroughly.
2. He will deliver us from the hand of the enemy;
When we serve the Lord, He will deliver us from the hand of the enemy. The Lord delivers those who serve Him. The enemy cannot exact upon you when you serve the Lord faithfully.
3. You will spend your days in prosperity and your years in pleasure;
This is what the Bible teaches in Job 36:11, those who obey the Lord and serve Him faithfully shall spend their days in prosperity and their years in pleasure. Because you are serving the living God, you will never know lack.
4. You will never miss the way;
Those who serve the Lord seek to do His will, hence do not miss the way. They also seek to know what He wants and they do it. You will always know and do the will of God.
5. You will win in life
Finally, it is important to understand that serving the Lord is an investment into the kingdom; that is why those who serve the Lord win in life; because they put their treasure in the kingdom, hence their hearts are stayed there. “Where your treasure is there your heart will be also”. Those who serve faithful are always kingdom-minded.
Those who serve will win in life through service. You will walk in total protection and safety. You will spend your days in prosperity and your years in pleasure. You will rise above all odds and win against calamity and evil. The Lord will be your helper and defend you. You will not fail. You will not lose. As you serve the Lord, you shall escape and excel.
Be blessed; I love you!
