Jeremiah 29:4-7 KJV — “ Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon; [5] Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;”
[6] “take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; tjuhat ye may be increased there, and not diminished. [7] And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace”.
The will of God for you is to prosper wherever you are planted, even if you were carried there as a captive. In the scripture above, the prophet Jeremiah is prophesying concerning a pending captivity: and he revealed that God want us to do the following things in whichever city we dwell in;
- Build houses and dwell in them
- Plant gardens and eat their fruits
- Marry wives and bear sons and daughters
- Help your sons and daughters to also find husbands and wives and bear children
The Bible teaches that it is God who determines where men ought to live and at what times. He determines the boundaries of our habitation and God wants us to dwell in cities where we can find Him.
Acts 17:24-28 KJV — “God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; [25] neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;”
[26] “and hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; [27] that they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: [28] for in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.“
There is a place on the face of the earth that each of us may find God. God wants us to dwell in cities where we can seek and find Him. God will never send you to a city where you cannot serve God. If God sent you there, you will find and serve Him.
Remember, the Lord wants you to seek the peace of the city where you dwell. God wants you to pray for the earth; pray for your city; pray for healing of the land; pray for all men, pray for kings, and pray for people in authority. This is no matter how blessed you are, when the wicked rule the people mourn! When the land is cursed, you can’t thrive there! (See 1 Timothy 2:1-8, Jeremiah 29:7, Isaiah 5, 2 Chronicles 7-14, 2 King 2:19-25, Matthew 6:9-13)
Look around your city! Can you find God? Do you think the city is being run the way God wants it? Is the will of God being done in your city? Are the people prospering in the city or they are mourning? It’s time to arise and pray for the earth!
Prayer points
- Acknowledge that you know God exist and He is the Lord of all flesh and father of all spirit. Pray that the Lord will manifest His name to all men who dwell in this city! Decree that at the mention of the name of Jesus, every knee in this city shall bow and every tongue confess Him Lord of all!
- Pray that the active presence and dominion of God shall be manifest in this city. Pray that the will of God will be done in this city, just as it is done in heaven!
- Pray that the Lord shall prepare and empower us to find sustenance and increase, and prosperity in this city. Lord help us to prosper in this city! You don’t need to sojourn anywhere else; may you prosper right here! Even if you will travel, it will be for missions or to do business, for training or for vacation! Pray!
- Pray that the peace of God will dwell in this city! Pray for tolerance, safety, and reconciliation on every front. Pray that the Lord shall forgive the iniquity and abominations committed in this city!
- Pray that the Lord will not lead us into temptation in this city! Pray that the Lord will help us raise godly children and build godly homes in this city. Pray that the Lord will deliver us from the evils and ills in this city! Pray for guidance and deliverance in the name of Jesus!
