Philippians 4:6 KJV — Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
In the context of this publication, prayer is the art of making your request known unto God. We all at one point or the other, confront things but even before times get difficult men ought to pray always and not to faint. Remember, the Bible in Luke 18 said “men, ought to always pray!” The Bible didn’t say Christians, the scriptures said “men”.
In praying, there are so many recommendations that people give. Some would rather do yoga, then pray! Others suggest Muslim prayers! Some even think that praying is more like pouring libations. Where can we find the balance? How can you pray to reach God? The answer is simple; pray like Jesus Christ! He is our supreme example. How do you pray like Jesus Christ prayed:
- Remember, prayer is not a substitute for work: Though My Jesus, is the supreme argument for prayer, Jesus prayed in the night and early mornings but he worked during the day. You hardly read in the gospels that Jesus Christ prayed during the day. He rather taught that we must work the work of the one that sent us while it is day. If you really want to pray like Jesus, then pray at night and in the early mornings. Dear pastor, dear brother, dear sister, let us work in the day and pray at night.
- Jesus Christ prayed privately and worked publicly: The Lord frowns on public spectacle prayers. When you learn to pray privately, God will reward you openly. That is not to say that you can not pray in church, but don’t let your prayers be limited to corporate prayers. Jesus mostly prayed privately; in solitary places, in the mountains; in the place of prayer; and in His closet.
- Jesus placed consistent prayer, over intense prayer: Jesus Christ would rather that we pray everyday; rather than long once-in-a-while prayers. Jesus Christ would choose daily hourly prayer; over weekly or monthly vigils. I would rather recommend that it’s better, to pray for 15 minutes every day than to have a 6 hour monthly vigil.
- Jesus prayed to His father, not to the universe: There is a new craze and new age deception that makes people pray to the universe. There is no such thing as praying to the universe. It’s deception, it’s witchcraft! And it’s demonic. When you pray, pray to your father in heaven.
May you receive the spirit of prayer and intercession to pray! May your prayers reach heaven and may you be answered swiftly in the name of Jesus Christ! May the Lord guide your heart and lips in prayer in the name of Jesus Christ!
Stay blessed
