In Luke 22:40, Jesus told His disciples, “Pray that ye enter not into temptation.”
TheThis was not just a suggestion but a divine instruction. Jesus knew the trials and pressures they were about to face, and He gave them the key to standing strong: prayer. Temptation is not only about sin but also about the temptation to give up, to doubt, or to lose faith when life gets difficult. Prayer is our shield—it keeps us alert, strengthens our spirit, and connects us to God’s sustaining grace in times of weakness.
The lesson here is that no one is strong enough to overcome temptation by human effort alone. Even Peter, who boldly declared loyalty to Jesus, fell when he failed to watch and pray. But through prayer, we receive divine help to resist the enemy, to endure trials, and to remain faithful. Today, Jesus gives us the same instruction: pray consistently, so that you do not fall when tests and temptations arise.
